I find it harder because your bodyweight is only on one side of the door instead of somewhere in the middle as it would be with a bar, and there's also no chance whatsoever to kip.

I'd hate that. By a fucking door pull up bar for like 20 dollars. If you're worried about weak door frames just reinforce them with a couple screws or nails. Its not that hard. I reinforced mine and do pull ups weighing 185 lbs with 80+ lbs on my belt and still havent brought it down yet.

I used to do these kind of pull ups on a door at work (they had security hinges for some reason). It's significantly easier than actual pull ups (I mean the wide ones). I don't do them any longer, because I hate how my knees hit the door all the time.

Whenever I spot metal door framer I do pull ups off them. There's only so much grip that it doesn't go past my fingernails.
I imagine it gives me hektik grip strength.
