For a 190 squat those are overdeveloped. Mine were big but not that big, and that was with a 240kg high bar squat.

I cant remember the source for this, so sorry for estating a bit, but i read that football players are taught to keep their hammies as close as possible to twice the strength of their quads specifically to prevent knee injury. I realize he isnt playing football, but this makes me think it could only help. Same issue here though, my knees crack a lot at high weights. No pain, just noise.

Find a gym where you can do prowler pushes (mostly hamstring and glutes) and sled drags (mostly quad). These can effectively replace deads and squats if you're hitting 5x100 feet at 500lb+ on grass.

It's such a basic lift and hits so many muscle groups, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't find at least find some small way to work squats into their routine.

Key word here is SPRINT cyclist.

Lance Armstrong has no quads because all of his steroid usage goes to sustaining him in his marathon riding sessions. Even with the roids, hes going to have very few calories to spare for muscle gain. Distance riders also like to keep their weight pretty low.

Look at sprint runners, too--a lot of those guys have big legs because they stand to benefit from the explosive power in short distance races. Lots of the top guys squat pretty heavy.
