Why do humans have the ability to build muscle? At no point through our history have we needed muscles since evolving an intelligence and being able to create and use tools that can achieve more than big muscles can and it seems every animal that does need muscle already has muscle they don't need to train for it
>>
>>35074971
Because we are mammals and our muscles have the ability to adapt to the conditions, just like the rest of your body. Also, throwing sticks and stones at stuff, carrying stuff and fighting stuff is still pretty physically demanding, and cars and guns are fairly new.
>>
>tfw too intelligent to lift weights
>>
>>35074971
>At no point through our history have we needed muscles since evolving an intelligence and being able to create and use tools that can achieve more than big muscles

In terms of evolution that wasn't a very long time ago.
>>
>>35074971
> no point through our history have we needed muscles
Do I have to remind you that we used to use swords, spears. axes and bows for fighting and walking and running for transport instead of firearms and cars?
>>
>>35075034
If you use those weapons the right way you don't use muscles you use body mechanics, i bet you still cut logs using your body instead of letting the axe do the work don't you
>>
>>35075060
How exactly does your body initiate those mechanics without muscle?
>>
>>35075071
Just like throwing punches doesn't build muscle, you use your hips to swing the sword and thrust the spear not your arms and if you've ever fired a bow you would know if you pull the string back you won't last very long you need to hold the string and let your bodyweight push the bow forward
>>
>>35075097
And you don't need grip strength to hold the string?

Have you ever tried to cock a crossbow?
>>
>>35075107
>And you don't need grip strength to hold the string?
No

>Have you ever tried to cock a crossbow?
Humans with their intellect invented ways around that
>>
>>35075097
You do realise that English longbows required so much strength to draw that the archer's skeleton literally deformed to better cope with the forces involved, right?
>>
>>35075139
They were rated at 180lb, you really think an archer had the equivalent of doing 180lb dumbell row for 30+ reps through the space of a battle?

No don't be daft, the bow had 180lb at force but the skill used to draw the bow using body weight instead of back required very little strength
>>
>>35074971

even today skinny beta nerds are kucks to chads.

This is the correct answer; the time in which we've developed technology to replace manual labor is minuscule compared to the huge timescale on which evolution has any noticeable effects.

Also everyone has to be able to grow muscle just to go from infancy to adulthood.
>>
>>35075177
No, ultimately it's who has more money, sadly. And those people are usually out of shape because they don't prioritize physical health.
>>
>>35075224
Do rows on one side all your life and I'm sure you'll deform too, dipshit.
>>
>>35075246
right, because humans have been doing movements similar to those found in strength training for ages.
thanks for playing.
>>
>>35075190
>>35075224
>deformed skeletons must mean they used their muscles

Japs make their babies sleep on their side to deform their skulls into being more square, it requires zero muscle just time and resistance
>>
>>35075234
how are you going to earn money if you can't move?

>no muscle
>literal skeleton hiding in a bag of skin
>>
>>35075261
not even trying
>>
>>35075256
They did the equivalent of rows all their life by pulling bowstrings you fucking retard. Go do heavy rows on just your right side every day for the rest of your life and you will have the same result.
>>
>>35075246
That was the entire point, Leeroy.

Are you moving? Then you are using muscle.

>>
>>35075300
did.... did you not read my post?
re-read it again, and then see if you post contradicts what i said.

i wasn't being sarcastic.

humans do shit found in strength training all the time, and have been since we were a thing.

it is then unsurprising we build muscle to necessitate things like pulling back bowstrings
>>
>>35074971
Because biological organisms grow. It's just what they do. You think there's some kind of design philosophy or something. Shit mostly just happens and if it doesn't suck it'll stick around. Evolution.
>>
>>35075234
/r9k/?
>>
>>35075321
But you're assuming drawing a bow uses resistance but it doesn't because you use skill not strength. Think of it this way

If you pick up a dumbell off the floor in a rowing motion you are building muscle

If you pick the dumbell up off the bench and just hold it at your chest for a few seconds you won't build muscle

The bow is drawn with bodyweight thus no strength is needed and you won't build muscle just holding the bow drawn

So if holding weight in position builds muscle why do we bench and not just hold the bar locked out and squat instead of just standing there with the bar on our back?

Holding a bow drawn will not build muscle, drawing it with your back will but like i've said 10 times they don't do that they lean into it with bodyweight and let the weight push the bow forward

>>35075456
You missed the point, holding the dumbell in lock out position will not build muscle and the same can be said for an archer holding the bow drawn
>>
>>35075466
You still have tension. It's like doing a negative. C'mon, do you even lift?
>>
>>35075556
This, Blaine Sunmer pretty much does rack lockouts and guy has a beast bench.
>>
>>35075466
you can build muscle isometrically.
>>
>>35075556
Yes i lift, i don't just hold bars in lockout position and expect results

You took away everything that has to be considered, just put down everything you know.

Muscle has worked for all animals, as long as we have the slightest muscle, we can grow it.
If we don't have muscle, then we are on the floor.

Not to mention bowman around the world trained their bow skill by repetitively shooting just like any other weapon and workout routine, repeat.
>>
>>35075578
Nah bro it's all skill see those peasants they were all skilled just like my Micheal bay movies.

My first post ITT. You are fucking stupid anon.
I love those arguments on /fit/, when one faggot is either trolling just that fucking stupid and others try to prove him wrong, but it's absolutely impossible over the internet.

>>35075466
>guys i am telling you, there is no evolutionary need for muscle despite all common sense indicating their is
>that is why we have muscle

why are you arguing for a side that is demonstrably wrong?

>>35075587
Sure, its skill as well, but aren't we talking about how the muscle functions and not so much of the archers history?

When did we develop intelligence?
>>
>>35075097

>you use your hips to swing the sword

Not true. There are many sword strikes that use only your arms.

A sword is sharp and is meant to go against flesh. You don't need to use your whole body in the swing to cause damage. In fact, shorter, faster movements are often more valuable since the opponent cannot predict your attack.

Humans have only been around for 200,000 years.

Most of that time was spent as feral savages

Even today, dudes with big muscles are naturally selected for due to sexual preferences.
>>
>>35075002
This. Exactly this. One of the greatest things about humans that helped us rise to top of the pecking order. It helped stop us being something with fangs' and claws' lunch
>>
>>35075133

So it's just a huge coincidence that every archer I've met has got strong a fuck fingers, right?

Chimp master race reporting in, just went bananas on my dumbass owner and ripped both of his arms off. Show me one human who can do that natty.
