What's the best weighted or bodyweight exercise for abs?

This is all you will ever need, nothing is better than this/variations of it.

Assuming, you only want abs for aesthetic reasons. (you should hit failure with correct form for 3x10 sets) if not, add weight, or find a decline bench that also has an arc like this for abs.

Also, put a a weight between your heel and but, and CONTRACT your hamstrings the whole time you are doing abs, (this makes it IMPOSSIBLE to activate your hip flexors.

you can activate the hamstrings a million different way, just find a way and make sure you are actively tensing the hammies.

You will not get a better answer in this thread.

Don't do side bends, that's fucking retarded, and anyone who's seen one of the human pictures without the skin, will see why.

It's a horizontal muscle that wraps AROUND you, not vertically.

Look up Russian twists, they are good.

Those oblique machines that work horizontally are truly optimal though (Only time I've ever recommended a machine for something)

There's no reason to do a dragon flag, (uses hip flexor) In addition to abs.

Just do reverse crunches (no pointless hip flexors involved)

Don't fall for this troll and just work your abs. I was squatting 2 and deadlifting 3 plates and even then they did not appear. One month after I started doing leg raises and crunches I had full 6. They are great for abs but not enough by themselves.

I do one where I take a 45 lb plate, lay on my back and hold it out with my arms extended, then lift my shoulders off the ground for reps,

Yes, but the range of motion it brings is what separates it from the pack.

Just doing them on the carpet reduces the effectiveness, making NUMEROUS other exercises better, like the ab wheel.
