Hey /fit/
I've been lifting on and off for about 5 years and I struggle ALOT with motivation, the past few years have been shitty, gained weight, one of my brothers has been in and out of jail, Dad pissed of somewhere, another of my brohers died, my girlfriend dumped me, I lost my job and I have been depressed for 1 year now.

So I'm looking for motivation to go back to the gym and for motivation to actually keep me going there.

If you got any helpfull advice /fit/ I'm all ears.

Just think of the favor you are doing for yourself.

If you come to /fit/ to fill the void of any self generated motivation you're not gonna make it. You're like that slutty whores who tries to fill the internal void of self esteem by taking as ma.y cocks as possible. If it doesnt come from within, you're not gonna make it.

Just think if you added "stopped working out and became an unfit piece of shit" to that list of bad just you just typed up. You would feel even worse. At least working out is something that you're still able to do.

Thats a lot of fucked up things going on in your life. I wouldn't say you have a depression, you have fucked up actual real problems. (which makes you feel depressed of course, but its not a depression, its a natural result of your life circumstances. What i am trying to say is that anyone would be depressed with that shit going on and its a 100% natural response) If you stopped lifting then all that emotional pain would be a lot worse. Lifting might be the only good thing in your life atm? Keep at it.

But, what are you doing with your life? Where will you be in 3 years, 5 years, 10 years? Whats your priorities? Whats your values? Are there any good people in your life that are close to that or can help you to where you wanna be? Life is though, life is shit, but its all about remaining on course and not letting it make one bitter, depressed and resentful.

exercise will bring you out of depression

Depression is a fucking killer of.. I was going to write something concrete, but then I remembered, that depresson kills fucking everything in you, your will to do things, your ability to have fun, to simply function normally. It obliterates a healthy mind.
You analyze yourself, analyze your depression. Try to minimize the stressors and maximuze the things that help. Mostly its about keeping your own mind from eating you alive, achieving a little insight over your emotions (meditation might help with this, but that depends on how it will suit you).
Keep in mind that your emotions follow what you do. Never be alone for too long. Do new things. Meet people, talk to them. Lift like an animal.
And just, for fucks sake, keep going. Keep trying. I mean, what else can you do? You just gonna give up, you little fucking pussy?

Fair warning: Your happiness is your own responsibility as well as your motivation. It is perfectly fine to look for something to inspire motivation, and definitely a helpful skill to be able to draw up motivation within from seemingly nothing. Keep in mind, however, that motivation has a common trait with happiness: it is fleeting. It will leave at the worst moment, and you need to develop discipline as the foundation of your mental attitudes. Motivation is essentially the curtains on the window. But it's still incredibly helpful when you're having an "off day."

Anywho, I'm gonna start dumping the sticky from one of the self-improvement general threads to help you out (continued in next post).

Basic Recommendations:
>Have a productivity Framework that is flexible. A mindset that gets you going.
>Use a calendar, like google calendar. Hours and shit for things YOU WILL DO.
>Learn to focus.
>Meditate.
>Do routines for things you should do periodically/daily, this should cover daily things or weekly chores such as laundry, cleaning, shopping.
>Identify and Eliminate conflicts within yourself.
>Focus on identifying the time wasters in your life and eliminate them.
>Focus on the essentials. If you try to do everything at once you’ll burnout. Little by little.

You should at least have 3 hobbies/activities.
-One that will pay the bills, gets food on your table
-One that will keep you in shape. (lower you faggot)
-One that you're passionate about and might be able to develop into a career.
--------

If you're into lifting, taking the tips to better yourself should be simple; as you already have built some self-discipline.

Make peace with yourself and the way things are right now.
Stop thinking the world owes you, how destiny ‘fucked you over’, how those guys have it easier.
Accept things as they are, realize that life is cruel and your circumstances are the ones you were given. You can’t do shit about the starting point, but you can move forward.

Don’t focus in what was given to you, focus in what you’ll achieve.

Eliminate the things you dislike about yourself, about your life. Is as simple as, do you enjoy your job? No? Take steps to change the feeling.
How are you gonna make that? You either make your job more enjoyable, or you change jobs. Simple.
You want a girl? how do you plan to achieve that? Are you too socially inept? Work on that.
Are you piss poor and can’t afford a decent living? Work on that too.

No matter who you are, where you are in your life, or how fucked up you think you are.
You can improve your life. Take control. Move forward.
Dreams keeps us alive, fighting for them makes us feel alive.

Get some discipline, set some goals and a way to achieve them.
Cultivate yourself, learn stuff, get your shit together.

And realize, understand. None is coming to save you.
You got to make your way through.
You NEED to take CONTROL.
If you're still in School. For fuck sake pay attention.

Material reading can be tricky. There will be trash here and there as we're not /lit/.

But we have to trust others.

As time goes, the /SIG/ has had a couple of books recommended. I’ve done my best to try to get talks of the authors of such books so you can get a ‘piece’ before you commit.

Google a bit about the book, if you think you can get something out of it, watch the talk.
In my opinion, try getting the books “for free”.
If you read it and get something out of it, consider paying for the book.

Personal recommendations: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Stoicism can be a good framework of how to handle negative emotions and stress as well as learning to live in the moment and appreciate life and all that's around you.
>>
>>35068085

I hope this helps you somewhat, OP. There are plenty of tools and skillsets out there to handle what you're going through, but it's up to you to go through the door so to speak.

Another personal recommendation is to get a cheap notebook, and start writing down what is bothering you, but balance that with what you are grateful for. It can be as simple as being grateful/happy that you're still alive, or that you're not a quadrapalegic shitting their pants for the rest of their existence. Always strive for improvement, but also be grateful for what (however little or big) you do have.

There's an older guy at my gym, maybe 55 or so, who is in a wheelchair.

He transitions to benches, machines, etc. all by himself.

A couple times a year I'll get depressed with where I am but you have to put it all in perspective. There are people whose fucking legs don't work. There are people sleeping under bridges tonight, people who haven't eating in 2 days, kids who will never make it past the age of 10 because of illness.

Always put it in perspective.
