Weights in backpack is a go to for training for the polar expedition fags. Better for your back.
Although there was a crazy norwegian chick who carried tractor tires up mountains for the same reason.

ruck climbs seem more practical but still kind of silly desu. if you need to make the climb harder, just do it faster.

Hello Swedefag
>>
>>35063531

that analogy doesnt apply here senpai.
>>
>>35063552
Yes it does. The same mountain hike with more restistance (weight) will give better results. This is excellent workout for calves.
>>
>>35063560

sure, but anon was reducing/relating the relation to a more general situation: lifting weights.

he seemed to be implying that there is no purpose in increasing weights when you can just do the exercise faster, making a strawman out of me.

i guess im the faggot for following the more conventional form of alpinism but to each their own i guess.

1000 dollars Eleiko bar + 1000 dollars worth of plates. You know it's gonna stay there at the top. Maybe if enough people fallow this dumb idea, it would be possible to make a gym up there.
>>
>>35063283
Good way to hurt yourself in a really remote place, I guess.
>>
fuck that, I can't even do cardio in this barely cold weather that we have.

I fucking hate cold, man.
>>
imagine being that much of a pretentious crossfit moron that you take there an actual bar, and not a backpack
>>
That will fucking kill your knees, not to mention you have a shit load of top weight on a potentially slippery surface. What the fuck is this guy thinking?

It's less impact on your joints to add resistance, like dragging a tire, and if you fall, you don't have 135lbs of metal coming down on your head.
>>
Anyone have any experience with backpacking weights? I've been told to lead the heaviest in the bottom because it strains the hips not the back, but the bastards keep molesting my tailbone. Any ideas?

What mountains would be good for weighted climbing? North face of the Eiger?

Just find a difficult route, people who do this as their main hobby find shit they struggle with.

Unless that weight is your stuff and you need to bring it with you up the mountain. On long hikes (2-4 weeks) I would rather be prepared to bring my stuff up through inaccessible areas than to avoid a great mountain because faggot.

Trad lead climber here (crags and shit, not much multipitching done yet), it's fun to climb, it's dangerous and that gives you a thrill, when you reach the top you feel like you've overcome not just the rock, but you've overcome your fear, you've achieved something on both a physical and mental level.

I want to get into alpine climbing and I'm sure it's a similar motivation behind alpine climbing.
>>
>>35065417
>Trad lead climber here.
Dude, I managed to get stuck on a mountain in a blizzard in march and got hypothermia. Now I have a fear of climbing in snow. Got any recommendations on how to kick the fear? Don't want the whole winter seasons ruined because of my lack of testies.
>>
>>35065517
As I say, I'm only hoping to get into alpine climbing, really I just do the nice little crags we have in Ireland, Alpine climbing would be a huge step up for me and I respect you for even dipping your feet into it.

But kicking the fear is the whole game for me, I find that once I do it, I think "wow, I want to do that again".

What I did at first was break the fear down into each individual source. First there was height, so I looked for very tall routes, then there was difficulty, so I focused on that (top roping), then I put them both together and started leading shit I knew I would fall on.

I guess you've just got to go for it, but go for something you're only scared of, going for what terrifies the living shit out of you may be a bad way to start.

But what the fuck do I know? I'm probably not even at your level yet.
>>
>>35065517

only sport/boulder here.

maybe just work on doing more projects on warmer seasons to get logistics/planning absolutely on point. that way, if/when you fuck next, it will hopefully be less than life threatening.

i dont know though. that shits next level. read freedom of the hills back to back and say your "hail lynn hill"s before sleep every night.

(I'm this guy >>35065555 )
Just while we're talking about climbing, if any climbers ever find themselves in Ireland and want to get into lead climbing, there's a great route in the Burren (county Clare) on a cliff-face we call "The Skull" (it looks like a skull from a distance), one slab route on it is literally the easiest way to learn to lead you will ever find.
>>
>>35065555
Just do it, then. Yeah, I guess the best alternative is to just confront it, otherwise the fear will just grow. Will invest in better equipment this winter. That was my main mistake last time.
>>35065584
I spent most of this spring and summer in the mountains. Warm seasons are easy and wonderful. Snow, Ice and cold changes the entire picture. In december there will only be 4 hours of daylight, which means climbing in the dark or in moonlight. But I should just go for it. No reason not to except coward, and that's unacceptable.
>>
>>35066014
>In december there will only be 4 hours of daylight
Reminder that K2 and Nanga Parbat haven't been climbed during winter yet.

If you feel like killing yourself, try breaking a record while doing so.

>>35066054
Both have more than 4 hours of daylight in december. Weather is the biggest problem there.
