why were bodybuilders so much better back in the day
>>34980386
Probably lack of human growth hormone and other no-name bathtub chemicals.
>>34980386
No tribal tattoos
No youtube
>>34980386
They took some hardcore roids which gave them better gains than the pussy shit today's body builders use.
>>34980386
They didn't fall for the Squat/Leg Memes
And if they did, their name was Platz.
>>34980399
Define hardcore, because the golden era bodybuilders still looked like men, albeit massive ones, whereas todays specimens look like emaciated mutant ninja turtles.
What did they even use back then anyway?
>>34980386
legal anabolics.
>>34980386
Rippetoe wasn't around to ruin aestethics.
>>34980450
Seems like deca and dbol were the main ones. Intredasting.

>Arnold didn't fall for the squat/leg memes
>same guy who used a routine involving 5x5 squats
>the same guy with multiple videos showing his squats
>implying squats don't work legs
come on lads

deca, dbol, winny and primo wee the most popular in 70s

He didn't overdo it. And his focus as a bodybuilder was getting the most out of reps and his form, rather than putting on the most weight.
He actually knew the fundamentals of training.
Arnold said that bodybuilders these days cannot flex and pose like they used to, like 30 mins max and that he did a flex and pose after every set and 30 mins of posing after working out.
It's basically that these days it's less about presenting aesthetics but more about presenting lean mass and the presentation is just an extra.
Also back then you had to show strength aka they made you do squats deads and benchpresses before even being allowed to pose.

They were all about the squats = legs, with the machine stuff for a big of variation.
>>34980858
Arnold literally talks about how he would do HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of squats in a day and that worked for him, where as someone like his friend Franco Columbo only did 3x10 once and then he was done for the day and that worked for him.

My point is; they also did HUNDREDS of upper body reps to the point where their bodies were V-shaped and aesthetic
They didn't OVERDO and OVER-PRIORITIZE leg strength as is the current trend in fitness
