Ive done 33 in a single set and 400 in 1h30
20kg added for 16
40kg added for 8
60kg added for 3

17 at last count. Working my way to 20.

Used to be able to do 12 chins with 20kg

After a 6 month break I'm struggling to do 10 with no added weight

The pain is real.

Guess it serves me right.
>>
12 with no weight
5 with 15lbs added
1 with 50lbs added
>>
>>34966566
I got really obsessed with em after my diddlylift went down from 260 to 220 due to a lumbar injury and my weekly back volume is nuts now
>>
>>34966633
Why does chinups strength disappear so rapidly?
>>
I can't do pullups even if my life depended on them. I think it's a mechanical issue in my scapula retraction. My right shoulder also fails earlier when doing OHP and bench.

Should I go see a phisio?
>>
I'm at 3x6 currently. Was struggling with 3x3 not too long ago. I'm going for 3x12
>>
5 chin ups with bodyweight.

But I'm a dyel fatty at 93kg so I guess it's ok.
>>
4, trying to up that to something respectable.
>>
>>34966499
>That bad form
I used to manage 20 chin ups and merely 12 pull ups. Atm I do five less each. I'm pretty bad at those, I know.
>>
I did 3x5 with 6kg added last time. I do them at the end when I'm pretty tired though, not sure if I could do more otherwise. Did a set of 15 one time bodyweight
>>
>>34966633
>>34966658

That's really not a huge deload when you think about it.

Assuming you're an average male weighing about 80kg, then your chinup basically went down from 100kg to 80kg, which is 20%, after 6 months of no lifting.

Did your other lifts not drop similarly?
>>
>>34967062
I'm 68kg, but I get your point. And yeah, it's not like I'm back at square one (way way back I couldn't even do a single one).

I'm also improving/regaining strength rather quickly so I'll probably be back to full strength soon(ish). Maybe 2-3 months?

Who knows, just gotta keep going even though it's humiliating and demoralizing as fuck to not be able to lift the same as before.
>>
>>34967083

Fuck it, it's unavoidable after such a long hiatus. Maybe try mixing longer bodyweight sets and shorter sets with added weight, like if you do chins twice a week perhaps one day you could do 3 x 10 bodyweight and on another day 3 x 5 with whatever weight you can lift.
>>
4 chin ups with 20kg added at 70kg bodyweight
>>
>>34967036

What do you mean? There's nothing wrong with his form unless I'm missing something.
>>
>>34966550
How much do you weight? Miring. I can do 10x30kg with BW of 87kg, i think im doing well too.
>>
bodyweight is 155. When I was 225, none. 185, 3. 175, 5.

I can do 12 pullups, no idea for chins. I do 3x6 weighted once a week, and do them after most training sessions. Weighted is done with 25 pounds at the moment.
>>
I can do about 20 unweighted, possibly more if i'm going to burn out just one set
And i can rep 65lbs 5 times
165-170lbs body weight
>>
>>34966499

15 pullups at 190lbs bw
>>
Last workout
5 one armed with bicep assist
15 one armed with forearm assist
25 one armed with wrist assist
20 regular on slope grip
10 on crimp grip

Before I made this switch I did 7x5 with 42.5lbs added.

Is everyone on /fit/ athletic as fuck? Or are the fat GOMAD neckbeards lurking and not posting?
>>
>>34967325
Being able to do pullups I don't think requires insane athletics.
Mind you I only do 12. To get good at them, I did them more. It's like any lift. Train it more if you want to get better at it. I care more about my posterior chain than anything else, so I do more pulls.

What bar/machine does /fit/ use? I've been kinda exclusively using the wide grip bar in pic related.

Shit is pretty hard but then found that using a straight bar like OP I can do much more.

Continue doing machine or use straight like OP?

>>
>>34968534
>you can add more weight, thus achieving more gains.
nice broscience, but the only reason you can add more weight, is because there is less resistance on the muscles as they contract.

so you can add more weight until you reach the same level of resistance against muscular contraction that you would receive with less weight and a pull up

meaning the resistance against the muscles are the same, meaning the gains are the same.

chins are for your biceps
pull ups are for your forearms/grip strength.

this is the real difference, if you are doing weighted.
>>
I do chins after my back exercises and before my biceps.

3xF Usually ends up being about 6-9 reps each set.
>>
I start my pull day with 3x8 pulls, 3x8 neutrals, 3x8 chins

Could prolly do like 20 chins from fresh, maybe 12 pulls
>>

15 pullups at bodyweight.

On a slightly related note, are pullups a good exercise for lats, or should I do another exercise to target them?
>>
>>34966550
Mirin. Highest I've ever gone is 40kg for 5.
>>
Pull Ups
With just bodyweight I can probably get 15+
I usually only do 12 since they're just a warm up
I'm currently doing weighted pull Ups
25 lbs are about 5-6, 10-15 lbs stay in the 8-10 rep range.

The only chin ups I do are close-mid underhand.
I could literally do them into infinity
I only do them after Pull Ups, but I can do 6-7 reps with 35 lbs of weight. Could probably get 45 lbs if I started with them
>>
>>34966499
how do you go so high on a pull up? should I be using weight assistance until I can go so high up?

3x10 Pullups + 3x8 Chin-Ups (+5kg) at 83kg Bodyweight.

It's insane, I started with 50kg Lat-Pulldowns two months ago and worked my way up there. Said "fuck it" after stalling at 70kg Lat-Pulldowns for weeks two weeks ago and just did Pullups instead.
>>
>>34966499
11-12 chinups, 8 pull ups
>>
>>34971018
Pullups hit upper back.

Chins hit lats better, honestly.

Do a couple of each and observe your lats through the movement.
>>

False,
Pull Ups hit your trees major and minor as well as your lats
Chin ups do the same thing and depending on the chosen grip it incorporates more bicep than pull ups

I do a pyramid set from 10
So 10, 9, 8,... Start with wide pull-ups and switch to chins when I don't think I'll be able to finish the next set (at 7ish). Sometimes I'll switch to neutral grip instead if my wrist is acting up.
>>
>>34971166
He means that switching from pull ups to an easier exercise (Chins) and adding weight because you're not strong enough to add weight to your pull-up doesn't make chins a more effective exercise. It just makes the chin up as effective as your pull-up.
>>
>>34971347
what this man said is correct

wider grip = upper back (more teres than lats)
closer grip = lower back(more lats than teres)

>>34971166
>why do you think theres less resistance?
there obviously is less resistance. against the muscle contracting, which is why you are able to contract it

if you strap on a 45lb and can only do 3 pull ups, but you can do 6 chin ups, there is obviously less resistance against the muscles contracting when you do the chin up, because they weight is dispersed across more muscle groups, so each individual muscle contracting has less resistance.
>>
>>34971166
Because chin-ups recrruit more muscles so they they don't have to work as hard
>>

>>
>>34971976
>both from dead hang and pause each rep
i do the same thing, but i have to ask this one question because reasons and autism:
do you keep your scapula retracted when you dead hang? or do you retract it at the beginning of every ROM?
>>
Does anyone else get a hurt/numb wrist after doing multiple sets of chin-ups?

i switched to pull ups exclusively for this reason, but i miss the bicep targeting of the chin-ups.

is there a way to use supinated grip that doesn't fuck your wrist?
>>
>>34973060
>is there a way to use supinated grip that doesn't fuck your wrist?

I've seen a system where it has a 45 degree offset option for where to grab for a chin up, rare tho.
>>
>>34973060
It's hardest on my wrists at full extension.
I do mostly pull-ups and add lighter sets of chins when my pullups are exhausting. I use a neutral grip if chins are giving my wrists too much trouble.

so i can do 3x6 chinups with 25kg added (guess thats about 55lbs), and afterwards i do about 3x8-10 pullups.

but my maximum number of chinups without weigh, is stuck around 12 since months. should i maybe add assisted chinups to my routine? if so, just do it after the weighted ones or skip the weighted ones?

also, im doing a full body routine 3x per week.

I was doing squats today and wanted to know how I can do, so I pumped out 15 solid reps while looking in the mirror to more my last and check form.

23 pull ups at 180lbs weight. Just 2 months ago I was able to do just 15, like any human bean, but then I started to do them in explosive manner with controlled descent and the number of reps increased for some reason. Now I'm doing weighted. I can do 10 with 45lbs plate. I'm just out (arguably) of dyel mode, so you can do that too, /fit/.
