How negative?
I have access to the spa area with my gym membership and wondering how to maximize gainz/restoration. Got access to 47 types of sauna and cold bath.
Normally hit the finnish sauna then dip in the cold water. Am I wasting time?

Ice swimming or ice baths are awesome, apparently it builds the brown fat in your body which is good for you, similar to what seals have.

I've only once managed to go actual ice swimming in the winter but my dad goes a few times every winter and says it's amazing. I've gone sometimes in the swimming hall, our local one has these ice tanks for people to swim in, and try to have a part of my showering cold every now and then.

Was just going to post that. It's a simple breathing thing. Take 30 minutes and breathe as he teaches. It works. It's hard, but it works. Do it for a month and you could be doing similar shit. But no one on fit is that dedicated to do something without Insta-gains.

What negative long term effects? Am Finnish and ice dipping is very popular here since forever and I've never heard of negative effects, unless you count diving under the ice like an idiot and drowning because you can't find your way back up. However every winter there's a bunch of lifestyle articles about how awesome Ice swimming is for you.

Would be really interested in seeing some source on the negative effects since so many people in my family go ice swimming

Ran Cross country and track in highschool and college (D2) at a competitive level. With the crazy amount of training in distance running if one decided not to take ice baths they were almost guaranteed to get a mid-season injury in my experience. As far as lifting goes I'm not sure how it transfers all I know is icing is near mandatory in upper level running so I can see why some benefits would transfer.
