Been lifting with a shitty ill defined routine, want to get on SL to see more consistent results/lift not bitch weight. Right now I can, with some amount of struggle, do 5x5 of

SL recommends starting with less than 50% of my 5 rep weight. This just seems like way too little. It suggests, for my lifts, starting at 65 lb bench and squat, 90 lb deadlift.

Is it really necessary to start that low? Or will starting at a higher weight affect progression?

Powerliftinggeneral.com, look at the Dropbox and see what videos it has for squats.

You get more out of reading than watching 8 minute YouTube tutorials. Find a good book and keep the squat advice said on your phone so you can remind yourself proper cues and form before you squat.

I'm debating going max weight on press every wednesday like a LP until it eventually starts to interfere with benching.

Don't do 90% of ID on VD. Do a weight that you can control and have good form on. Consider adding sets and/or shortening rest periods before adding weight on VD. The idea is to keep VD as light as possible and still progress on ID. Don't max out on "The Press"(tm)(c), treat it as an accessory movement. Start light on the RDL:s.

This is what I strongly suspected. I think he wants to feel like he's getting super prepared or something though, So I may try to convince him to just do his rest day on the monday of the meet week, and then take it easy until the Saturday comp.

I wouldn't call him a beginner. Just a guy with a lot of time in the gym, but a very short time training specifically for PL, and too many injuries during the process. But yeah, we both have lots of time to just train hard. First meet too, so I'm not trying to be competitive here, I just wanna lift heavy weights and then go drink with some new PL friends.

got a sheiko squat session today and I plan to try highbar, if that doesn't work I'm doing a ghetto SSB with straps

right now I only get pain from really extreme movements at the end of my lateral ROM for shoulder, so I -might- be able to bench, but will probably give it another 5-7 days before doing so to be safe.

kind of sad because my shkills test is december 1st and a bench PR is probably not in the cards anymore... hoping to squat and DL in the high 300s and mid 400s tho

I was doing facepulls on monday, ironically to try and start doing shoulder prehab because they felt meh, during the eccentric of a rep I felt a funky twinge or pop and got immediate pain. Lateral movement of any sort was basically impossible but I could still do the apley scratch test fine. I stopped my workout and have RICEd since then.

The weight doesnt really matter because only the changes in weight are relevant. Once there's three reds up there it doesnt affect you, you just switch the additional plates back and forth. It was my first time doing it and you pick it up pretty quickly it's not super hard.
