How much will a decent home gym cost me?
>>
Depends where you live.

Cost me around $2,000 to set-up mine ( Australia )

>inb4 "like $300 dewd"

My adjustable bench alone cost me $350. It is certified to hold 525kg max load.

I had a $50 bench, but it was only rated to 150kg max-load, replaced it with the one above for my own safety.

What's a good power rack to buy?

depends on what you wanna do with it/what your budget is

they come with different features

Setting up a decent home gym is not too easy.

Too many people here advise you to go on craigslist and buy whatever used shit you can find.

Craigslist is not popular in every country and someone who owns good fitness equipment is unlikely to just give it away. Especially not to a low price if it is really good equipment.

I am currently checking on amazon. All the prices are pretty reasonable. Except when it comes to the fucking weights. 2x20kg plates are like 60€ sometimes - I need bumper plates to not fuck flat up.

I guess a squat rack, bench, barbell, floor mats, etc will be around minimum 600€, and I think the weight will at least some extra 400€.

Anyhow, that is still cheaper than a membership for two years in the only gym in a vicinity of 20km around me.
>>
The only thing I regret all my life is that I didn't have a home gym as a kid.
Fuck this man, FUCK.

Just like Baki's.
>>
Just go to thebuffdudes channel on YouTube, they have an instructional video to build your own power cage out of wood and pipes and it only costs like $250 bucks
>>
if you get all the stuff used it can be pretty cheap, most people are just giving it away

>>
>>34919779
You start out small and upgrade over time.
Most important thing would be a set of adjustable dumbells, a barbell and weights.
From there you could add a bench and later on, a power rack, Or, if you're cheap, just some kind of adjustable barbell rack for benching and squatting plus a some kind of pull-up bar.

I would say a good home gym would cost you about 12 to 24 months of a gym membership.

this for 200€?

I spent 600 USD on my olympic barbell but I wanted a high quality IWF certified training bar which is overkill for anyone who doesn't do Olympic lifting or is not serious about it.
530 USD on 370 LBs worth of bumper plates and 250 USD on a squat stand.

The thing is that having your own equipment is still cheaper in the long run even if you do spend a lot of money on it you will still be saving money.

>monthly membership £10-20
>decent home gym costing £120-£480

I was more or less with you up until then.
>>
>>34920841

Hell no, how new are you?

You need a power rack and an adjustable bench
>>
>>34920841
Forget these all-rounder machines. They won't give you any gains besides maybe a few noob gains. Also the weight you can select is very limited. All you need is a bench and a squat rack. Maybe a few barbells for accessory work.

Home gym phase 1: less than $50

- a pair of saw horses $30
- a broom stick $6
- strong duct tape $6

You can now make an inverted row bar.

A well balanced body weight program can be created from this setup alone.
>>
Does using home gyms make you less motivated?
>>
It depends on how handy you are. If you got mad scavenging skills or good connections, you can make/get made a power cage for fuck all, so you only really need to get a bar and weights. Don't skimp on the bar, brah, otherwise you're out of pocket twice. You might also want to get a bench, adjustable or no. Scope out the prices on that and think over if you don't know some dude who can work wood or metal into a power cage, or make a heavy-duty set of jerk blocks and squat from those.

>>34920422
>I need bumper plates to not fuck flat up
Are you doing jerks or snatches?
If not, you can probably get away with some thick rubber mats and cheaper steel plates - They'll also do a better job of dampening the noise than just dumping a pair of bumpers on your floor.

>>34921138
I find it doesn't. It's nasty to sprint through the rain and the mud with a heavy fucking bag to the gym at times, while with a home gym I just walk right out in the shed where I have all my stuff, play the music I want and spit and shout all I want.

Power rack w/ chinning/dipping attachments
Ajustable bench
Barbell + plates

^ This will set you back about £600 already.

Then there's weight belts for your chins/dips, dumbbells, fat grips, resistance bands, assorted bars (if you're a faggot who can't use barbells).

OP don't be a cheap ass, buy everything you'd possibly need and decent equipment. You should see this as an investment in yourself, you wouldn't want to bake an excellent cake and use crappy ingredients and cooking utensils because you would find it to be a pain in the fucking ass and you'd know deep down it's going to be shit when its done - your body is no different.
>>
>>34921138
Hell fucking no

>Can make coffee whenever I want during my workout for an extra kick
>tfw going straight for a shit after a heavy deadlift

The gyms I joined were rather expensive. About 45€ a month. So that's 500€ per year. I spend on my home gym about that, maybe a little bit more.

>>34921138
Made me even more motivated.
You coud train when you want to, no hassle driving there and not worrying about how packed it might be there.
I also had some big motivational posters and a chalk board for keeping track and PRs.
Shit was glorious.
>>
Titan power rack = $400
CAP OB-86B barbell = ~$130
Flat bench = ~$100 (I have a Deltech bench)
345lbs weight on Craigslist = ~$170

$800 total. Maybe more if you want to make a hard rubber floor with plywood support or more weight.
>>
>>34921138

No, now I lift whenever I want - listen to my favorite music at deafening volumes, lift shirtless if I please, drop bars, grunt and spit during hard reps without feeling embarrassed.

> No curlbros, cardiobunnies, indians, old people, 12 year olds
>>
It cost me $1000 for 200kg of bumpers, a rogue bar, rogue bench and cheapish power rack.

I expect to drop another $1000 into it by the time it's "finished".
>>
>>34921287
Bolt this fucker into your garage floor.

Buy the barbell I mentioned as it's got a great weight rating, great knurling, and is the best at that price range.

I've built up my home gym on a college student budget and I fucking love it.
>>
>>34921312

Why Rouge equipment? There is plenty of other makes out there of a same standard that don't charge extortionate prices.

So long as the bars tensile strength is of a high rating 180K+ you shouldn't have any problems.
>>
>>34919779
Cost me about £800 for a cage, bench and bar with weight. Could have potentially saved money by buying pre owned but the free delivery and finance swung it for me.
>>
>>34920841
NOPE.
>>
>>34921138
Nope. I miss fewer workouts now I have a home gym.

Travel isn't an excuse any more. Time is less of a factor. I know I'll never have to wait for equipment or cut my tests short becaus a queue is forming. I can listen to whatever music I want, I can fart loud as I want, I can workout in my undies in summer. If I get hungry I can leave my stuff, get food, and come back in an hour. The fact that I've invested hundreds in my setup encourages me to use it but at the same time I know it'll have paid itself in membership and transport costs in under two years.

Only downside I can see is that you miss out on the social aspect, but i never went to the gym to socialise anyway.

not because you got 99, but because woodcutting is probably the shittiest skill

Since we all live in different countries with different currency values and different economic power, won't be better to gather together and try to figure out the absolute necessary to set up a home gym?

Them each one will find the price of said equipaments in their own currency.

Are you good with physics and math stuff, brah?
I got a power cage that's rated for 200 kg load at each point (So like, each hook). What's the math stuff I gotta do to figure out its maximum weight limit? The hooks are like 153 cm apart, and I'm using a standard 220 cm / 20 kg bar.

fucking mirin.

I'm in an apt now but when I graduate and get a career I want a garage with a power rack and my drum set.

I can't play now due to apartment situation.

>>34921138
I am much more regular with home workouts.

Having to spend 40min just getting to/from the gym is a big disincentive when I am otherwise pressed for time.

With a home gym I can almost finish an entire workout in that time alone.

The only people who will do worse with a homegym are the ones that only go to they gym on days when they have a buddy there, and even they won't do much worse since they aren't really at the gym to lift anyway.
