Guys, i want to start working out, but there is no Gym in my town. Im going to a big city next week so im planning to buy some stuff. I'm also a student so i dont have a lot of money - what is the absolute must? I'm thinking 1 barbell+weights and 1 dumbbel+weights. What weights should i pick up as absolute beginner? I looked up on the internet and here is my list so far:

>1xdumbbell(2kg)+8kg weights
>1xbarbell(3kg)+47kg weighs

How long would this be enough for me? I wanna go with SS.

Im not moving there, just going for some business.
I dont know about 3kg barbells. On the internet it said this : barbell 3-50kg...i dont know what else to make of this.

>>34919368
Can you recommend me any specific number i should go for?
>>
Are we all really just gonna ignore the beauty and grace that is ops pic? Fucking gorgeous weld m9
>>
>>34919348
You need

one pullup bar
one barbell weight rack
one barbell (A PROPER ONE 3KG ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME)
weights (more than 47kg WTF get proper weights in 2.5kg steps up to 20kg weights at least)
one weight bench

This will last you a VERY long time.

Got more, but I would appreciate some serious advice on this. Anybody have experience with building homegym?

i appreciate these sick welds... so nice actually, high test af
>>
>>34919398
also not in 2.5kg, I talked nonsense, I meant you should go up in 2.5kg steps and therefore get 1.25kg weights.

Get

2x 1.25kg
2x 2.5kg
2x 5kg
2x 10kg
2x 20 kg
>>
>>34919417
Forgot to say that this is the minimum of what you should get, if you can get MORE. You will hit the cap very quickly when you squat and deadlift properly. If you can get 4x 20kg and 2x 50kg
>>
>>34919417
This, but atleast 4x 20 kg. Maybe 6x its the ideal.

You can build your own rack and bench.
>>
>>34919417
>max squat and dead: 100kg
get this, plus 4 more 20 plates. you might also want one set of your 20 plates to be bumper plates.

also, don't buy pre-made racks and pul up bars, make your own if you can be bothered. you will save hundreds (dollars). i made all my own shit except my bench - now i have cable machines, a rack for squatting, benching and everything in between and a pull up bar. this normally would have cost me well over £1000 minimum but i built this all for about £100. the expensive part was buying weight - i have 6 15kg plates, 2 20kg bumper plates, 2 10kg plates, 4 5kg plates, 4 2.5kg plates and 4 1.25kg plates and it cost me like £150, even buying used. finding cheap weight is not easy here.

I really have nowhere to put pullup bar.

Ok so is looks liek this now:
Barbell (8kg)
2x 2.5kg
2x 5kg
2x 10kg
2x 20 kg
Shop doesnt have 1.25kg ones (wtf?).

Also, what to use as bench for benchpress? At home? I live in 1 bedroom flat, really dont have much space to build one..
>>
>>34919460
>Barbell (8kg)
absolutely not, get an olympic one cause those flimsy ass fag bars will break once you put on any amount of serious weight. if you don't buy an olympic bar you can say goodbye to a decent squat and deadlift and probably a decent bench press too.

if a shop doesn't have something then order online.

you can built flattish racks that i could fit inside a shitty tokyo apartment if i tried.

for fucks sake man, use your head, this thread is getting annoying now. why are people who want to lift at home always such idiots.
>>
>>34919460
Do you have a door? Congratulations, you have a pullup bar.

>Barbell (8 kg)
No, a PROPER one. Olympic barbells weigh around 18 kg. Go figure

By the way we are all sounding pissed because this is stuff you can easily google
>>
>>34919486
>for fucks sake man, use your head, this thread is getting annoying now. why are people who want to lift at home always such idiots.
Because they're never going to make it in the first place. They don't have it in them what it takes to lift 3-5 times a week, so they waste they time on "planning" (without actually plannin) what they need.

Feel free to prove me wrong, OP.

>>
>>34919454
how did you build your rack/bench? what did you use? how do I know how much weight they can handle?
>>
>>34919600
i went to a steel merchant and bought steel box sections. basically just made a rack as simply as i could - used self tapering screws to keep everything together. it's hard to explain/draw, i'll take pics later and upload them here if people keep this thread alive. i know its strong enough because the kind of box sections i got were heavy as shit and were actually used in chassis for lorries a few years back. i didn't make my own bench though i am certain i could have had i wanted to. there's not much point though because you can get them cheaply - i made my rack because squat racks are probably one of the most overpriced pieces of fitness equipment you can buy.
>>
>>34920179
They are self tapping not tapering.
>>
>>34920235
tapping yeah, dunno where the fuck tapering came from. i've not had much sleep.
>>
>>34919460
Oh fuck off, all you need is $25 and a doorway.

>>
>>34920179
I would really appreciate it. The cheapest squat rack I can get on amazon costs ~140€ excluding shipping. Would it still be worth it to make one myself? If no, no need to take pictures. thanks man

An olympic bar is exactly 2.2 metres (7.2 feet) and weighs 20 kilograms (44lb)

I don't know about homegyms but I'm a welding apprentice and I can't tell you that those beads you're posting are TIG which is expensive and not a worthy investment if all you're gonna do is build a home gym.

However, the welding skills needed to build a powercage are very basic.
Pick up an old SMAW arc welding machine (cheap, no gas bottle needed unlike TIG or MIG) from craigslist, watch some basic arc welding tutorials (chucke2009 and weldingtipsandtricks are good on YT), order some metal square section tubes, tack it all in place (google tack welding, it's laying down drops of metal to hold things in place at the right angle) then lay down a simple bead in the joint, no fancy stuff, at the right amperage for the metal thickness (try out on spare metal before the real deal, go as high amperage as you can without blasting through the metal) and that's it.

And get a pair of gloves, a welding mask (both are very cheap) and full body clothing.

Here's my rack. It's 2 unconnected thick, steel box sections, about 2.5 metres in length (estimate, i can't remember the exact length), each screwed to 2 thick, flat steel bars, which help to brace the rack against the wall as well as acting as the pins from which you pick up the weight.
I had to measure my height to find a good position to attach the upper pins, which i use for squats and presses no problem. I lay flat on a bench with my arms in the air to find a good position for the lower pins, which i use for bench presses and occasionally shrugs and barbell rows. I am thinking of adding a middle pair of pins to allow me to do seated barbell presses.

The rack is collapsable - pics to follow.

One of the joints attaching the box sections to the bars. You can see the 3 self tapping boltsI used to screw each in place (which was a good forearm workout).

Here is how the feet of the rack are braced on the floor - 2 pieces of wood screwed on the floor. Nothing fancy at all, does the job like it needs to though.

>>34921868
Because there I have a tiny garage and an absolute must for me is to be able to collapse the rack and pack it neatly against the wall, where it takes up only inches of room. If space wasn't an issue I would have built a cage.

Here's how the rack attaches to the wall. A block of wood for each box section is screwed to the wall, and attached to them is a small bracket to hold it in place. You can see I drilled a hole through the top of the box section through which I put a long screw to hold it in place.

The advantage of having a rack like this is that you can take it off the wall in seconds. It's not fancy and it doesn't have to be. If you want a big piece of chrome with some fitness brand on it, buy a £2000 cage and enjoy the pretty patterns. Or just build one of these.

A final picture of my rack. Most of the weight is taken by the floor. I have had a 180kg barbell on the upper pins and hung from it (I am 80kg) without a hint of weakness from it, so it will last you your entire lifting career unless you manage to somehow increase your squat to 300kg or something;
