if people walk away from the second half of fight club and still want to start a fight club, they probably didnt get it.
the first half is an exploration in hedonistic nihilism and showcasing a lot of the attractive aspects of it. the second half is essentially a reality check, saying that if one lives to such an extreme it would eventually lead to spiraling self-destruction.
the "moral" is to remember to stay above consumerism and materialism and that anger and violence only leads to anger and violence.
David Fincher, Brad Pitt, and Edward Norton all approached the movie like they were making a comedy. It wasn't meant to be a calling card for the lifestyle presented.
Its kind of like how at the end of their lives both Nietzsche and Confucius basically said: "Go and do your own thing."
Because I took part in one and got my shit rekt by a druggie. Will start BJJ or muay thai next year so this embarrassment doesn't happen again.

The point is that Edward Norton's character is meant to be sensible and not batshit insane like Tyler. You're meant to relate to Jack, because he recognizes consumerism but doesn't go all terrorist on everyone. Tyler's the exact opposite of what you're meant to take away from the film.

Hard work overcome is a testament to the individual.
A fight club is just one method of overcoming hardship, but by surviving and repeating the process you face and eventually accept and overcome your own mortality.
A "Fight Club" is an extremely crude method of achieving the same outcome that is basically the equivalent to the rights of passage in warrior cultures.
The modern equivalent would be to join a military branch as infantry or to take part in some other kind of ball breaking hard long term course.
Fight club is really about becoming a man, and how modern society is an obstacle to be overcome.

I'm a member of a local fightclub, but the 'no rules' rule mean that I get my ass kicked by roiders with cauliflower ears, not that I get to learn proper techniques from lean otters like in my jiu jitsu club. The only plus side of fightclubs is that you get proper fights instead of pretent play.
