What do /fit/?

I'm 19 years old, 93 kg and 186 cm tall. I want to start lifting weights but I can not seem to make up my mind on whether I should first cut so I have an acceptable bodyfat % or whether I should immediately start lifting weights and bulking.

If it's the former, what is the point of lifting on a calorie deficit when you basically have no muscles to preserve?

yes, ideally you would bulk, but you might get discouraged as you get fatter and people might just see you as getting fat. it's easy to lose track of your goal when you start actually looking worse for all the effort you put into it (until you cut)

if you think you can do it, feel free to go ham and go on a slight bulk (don't go crazy with the +1000 calories surplus)

So when you first start you'll almost definitely make strength gains even if you're on a cut, as long as you don't cut too fast.

Basically you have to decide whether you are happy with how your weight looks now, if you'd be happy to be bigger etc. It's no good some guys on /fit/ saying yeah bulk hard go crazy get strong, then you do but end up fatter and unhappy with your body, so it's a lot to do with your mental mindset.

Personally, if I were you, and this is advice from just one of many random people from the Internet you'll likely never see or talk to again, I would cut first while slowly trying to increase lifts, working first on good form.

You could also look into a body recomp.
