There is no correct way to deadlift. None. The guy who invented the deadlift became most infamously known for spending his final days being unable to perform any kind of physical exercise after falling into the trap he set for himself and suffering an extreme back injury. One of his last quotes actually warned lifters to never attempt the exercise, which can only possibly bring more harm than good, but the world didn't listen.

Every year, roughly 63.5% of every weightlifter who has been deadlifting for over a year suffers a nasty injury an has to step away from any form of physical activity for at least two months. Deadlift alone has put more lifters in the hospital than any other injury caused by literally any other exercise. It's not a matter of IF you'll be hurt by it, but rather WHEN.

Even when performed properly, the deadlift puts an unnatural tension in the spine which slowly starts to tear it apart the more you do it, specially as you tend to go on increasing weights. Some bodies are more resistant than others, but over the time amount of time, they all break down. 86% of men are unnable to deadlift during their entire fitness career due to injury, discomfort or just pain from the exercise. These are just facts.

It's the same reason you shouldn't squat below parallel.
