This is very simple.

Your body has muscle and fat. There is fat on top of your muscles. Just like there is some on top of your abs, there is some on top of your arms, legs, etc.

Your muscles get larger by growing them. The individual contours (definition) of the muscles become more visible as you lose the fat on top of them or you can grow them so much that it's a moot point.

If you want "definition" go on a cut.

SS will give you enough muscle gain on its own, there's no point in adding ancillary exercises until at least 3 months in.
Just follow the program and you'll see the most gains both when it comes to strength but also hypertrophy.
