The thing is, people substitute the power clean for rows, but they are completely different exercises.

SS doesn't have PC instead of rows, it has CHINUPS instead of rows (which are arguably a better back exercise).

You can still do rows with SS, you just substitute the chinups for them. Changing the PC to rows is like changing the squats for incline bench press.

A: Squat Press DL
B: Squat Bench PC Chinups/rows

Now, people say PC is useless if you're training for strength or aesthetics, but that's complete nonsense. PC trains your legs and posterior chain really well, not to mention it's the best exercise for the traps besides the barbell shrug (which is a variation of the power clean). PC is like doing lighter DLs, but with the bonus of training your power at the same time and extra traps development.

Besides all that, it also gives you a very important skill: the ability to get the bar from the floor to your chest. DLs can take the bar from the floor to your hips, and the press can take the bar from your chest to overhead - but without the clean, you're helpless if the bar is on the floor and you need it higher than the deadlift.

Two major examples of the usefulness of that:
Being able to do the Press without needing a rack.
Being able to do Incline Bench without a spotter and without having to take the plates off and put them back again everytime you do a roll of shame.

Besides, I really don't get why people are so afraid of trying PCs. It's not even hard to learn.

There's nothing wrong with doing pendlay rows.
What is wrong is assuming power cleans don't give you strength or hypertrophy because it's an explosion lift - while pendlay row is also an explosion lift.

However, rows do not substitute the power cleans. They are a back exercise, the power cleans are a legs/hips and traps exercise. You can row with SS, but you substitute the chinups, not the power cleans - as mentioned here >>34872492

But if you're doing 5x5 it doesn't matter. This is only for those doing the better program aka SS.
