For the life of me I can't find the study, but it has been shown that medium/high intensity endurance training stops protein synthesis for 36-48hours. Resistance trianing and high protein diet counteract this, but not enough to gain on, genetics not withstanding.

What's better for a grill losing weight: HIIT or regular cardio? What will work best for keeping dem boobs?
>>
>>34866674
either works. you can't prevent boobloss though.

best you can do is take progress pics every week, and choose which one you like the best when you hit your goal. then gain fat up to that level and build muscle from there.
>>
>>34860484
Depends on your goal
If you want to run faster/longer, push yourself in that area.
If you want to get bigger, maybe avoid doing intense cardio sessions until you've achieved your goals, your body can only do so much.
>>
>>34860484
Anyone that tells you cardio isn't important is a mouth breathing retard. It depends on your goals how much you should do, but I'd say at least one session of 2miles/week is the least, for someone who is reasonably in shape, anyone should be doing.
>>
>>34866524

Handegg and rugby players are a testament against that
>>
>>34860484
If you don't do cardio, you're not fit. Period. If your goal is just to be a fat powerlifter or have a nice body you can probably get by without it. But don't delude yourself into thinking you're an overall fit person if you can't even run a mile and get winded walking up a flight of stairs.
>>

I actually only lift to improve my running. I was competitive in track and cross country in high school and ran D1 in college/uni, and now have remained fast enough that I can pick up a few bucks every other weekend doing road races. My racing often comes down to the final sprint, so I've been doing a periodized lifting program with a base of high weight low rep lifting for strength, transitioning to a medium-high weight and medium rep range program for speed, then transitioning out to plyometrics for sharpening. Seems to be working pretty well, I've started outkicking guys with better mid-d speed than me, I bet I could PR over 400m, 800m, and mile right now, even though I'm training more for 5k-half marathon range.

My wife is a cardio bunny (former D1 nordic skiier) but she is strong and I think I am getting closer to getting her into lifting, but that's only for aesthetics.

If they use the concept of attenuation of effects the same way we use it in the behavioral sense in behavioral neuroscience, that means that the effect doing the attenuating (in this case, cardiovascular fitness) mediates the relationship and accounts for more of the variance. That would suggest, based on this paper, that cardio is in fact more important than muscular strength for longevity.

Faster out of blocks maybe, but I suspect a decent marathoner could outrun you at any distance past 200, maybe 300m. I'm not even a good runner (15:40 5k, which isn't very good at the college level) and I can drop a 26 second 200m pretty comfortably. Stronger, probably, yes, so if you're in some shit-tier manual labor profession then I guess that's helpful.

If you're an intelligent person, you'll do both high volume endurance as well as high intensity lifting, but if you could only do one it would be endurance training for anyone with a functioning brain.

"hurr durr cardio kills gains here are my e-stats for my lifts"
>anyone with school level education of fitness (or equivalent) consensus
Cardio aids recovery, helps develop a stronger, healthier heart and helps prepare the synovial fluid in the joints (with cross trainer/rowing being better as a full body cardio exercise removing the need to do dynamic stretches)

The sad reality is that /fit/ is full of fat DYEL faggots who can't manage intermediate lifts, people who don't work out that spilled in from /b/, people who can't stick to a cut and steroid users who don't know proper lifting form for the most part, coming to /fit/ for information outside of the sticky is a recipe for disaster.

MAfag here, if you don't train to take hits, you will get beaten up if you are a body builder, power lifter or strong man.
Getting punched in the chin and not knowing how to defend yourself leaves you pretty fucked regardless of your size, that's why larger BB guys don't go out on weekends, because guys with Napoleon complexes fuck them up having something to prove.

When any BB guy enters a self defence class for the first time, they get a nice reality check, a 50kg manlet who knows how to throw a punch can fuck up a 120kg strong man if the strong man doesn't know what to do.
For more information you can find an article somewhere about rugby players and head injuries, Rugby players think they are invincible, in reality when they take a hard hit, their brain hits the wall of their skull just like anyone else's.
>>

Aggression + technique will win over size and strength any day.

I also mention bbfags because /fit/ sometimes turns into a hug box of "I can bench therefore I will win fights".

Cardio makes your heart stronger and healthier, reducing the risk for the number one cause of timely death in the United States.

It strengthens your lungs and increases their capacity, giving you more internal compression during heavy lifts and letting you recover faster.

It burns calories without exhausting your central nervous system, letting you do something to keep low body-fat during days you don't lift.

It regulates your hormones, and releases significant quantities of anandamide, an endocannabinoid that has similar properties to the THC and CBD in cannabis. Anandamide gets it name from a Sanskrit word for pleasure. It is suspected to play a primary role in exercises ability to alleviate the symptoms of depression.

>I'll answer for him, no, it isn't harder to beat someone up regardless of what they lift.

Great answer. Let's remove weight classes then because the additional strength and muscle mass a man with a 600lb squat has is of no benefit in a fight.

>b-b-b-b-b-but if you put him in a cage and he's never fought anyone in his life and he has an IQ of 90 and he gets tired too quickly and has too much muscle that slows him down then he'll lose to a UFC flyweight champion!
>strength isn't that important!

It's like the HAES of combat sports. It's funny because the only reason manlets are involved in combat sports in the first place is because weight classes artificially give them a spot to fight in.

>Great answer. Let's remove weight classes then because the additional strength and muscle mass a man with a 600lb squat has is of no benefit in a fight.
Did you seriously forget that the people put into fighting weight classes already know how to fight? this is referring to a street fight, not sports.
a 150lb boxer and a 180lb boxer will look very different size wise, which is why they need weight classes (also because it means they can have more fights etc).
I also hate to break it to you, but people who train for fighting (especially professionally) seldom train for strength or hypertrophy, they usually stick to the 25 rep range.

Yay, but not on the same day of lifting for me.

Okay I'll rephrase since you have trouble understanding this. You might still have trouble understanding what is being said but you can only blame yourself.

You must be a moron to argue against the claim that a man with a 600lbs squat is harder to beat up than a man with a 300lbs, because that claim is based on the same principle that gave rise to weight classes in several sports.

I knew quite a few of my lifting buddies who believed that. One of them was even a former cross-country runner

My 11 year old sister can run that. 3km isn't shit and boasting about sub 2 mile run time is pretty pathetic unless you're in the sub 5 minute mile range.

Want to walk up some stairs without losing your breath? Run. Want to have sex for more than 45 seconds without huffing and puffing? Run. Want to play any real sport? Run. Want to walk for more then 4 miles in a day without hurting/being tired? Run. Want to work out your legs beyond your bitch ass 3km run? Run. Want to be able to carry your kids around on your shoulders at the fair someday? Run. Want to have a heart healthy enough to get you to 80 years old? Run.

Don't be like this stupid fucker everyone.
