I personally find power lifting cool, I like seeing heavy squats, dears and bench presses. In my opinion, what ruins power lifting is how cheating the lifts is a big part of their sport, like squatting only to a certain depth below parallel, having no limit on how much you can arch on the bench etc. And the fact that there are drug feds for steroid users. Everybody in weightlifting is on enough steroids to make a wada tester proud, but at least they don't openly admit it.

Nobody. I'm just saying proportions do play a part. Yuri vardanyans snatch will be different to ilyas snatch. Both are Olympic champions, but vastly different proportions,so they lift differently.

Yuri vardanyan is also the first person to get a 400 kg total in his weight class, so there's that too. The whole proportions discussion is stupid because proportions won't have bearing on how good you can be.

They do play a part, there's no deneying it. For example a guy with long femurs and a short torso isnt going to sit very upright in a snatch receive. That is less than ideal. Is it a big issue though? Not really.

Heres how i see it; Let's say for the sake of argument that that someone who had typical 'Chinese lifter' proportions had an accident that someone shrank his torso and enlarged his femurs (kek). That's a problem, as the positions are all fucked. But, if you've grown up and lifted your whole life with long femurs or six dicks, you don't know any different so how much of a challenge is it really?

I think the real challenge for lankier lifters come when self teaching, cos if they emulate the little Chinese dudes they will struggle. But any decent coach will just set their start up according to their build surely?

Behdad salimi stands at a lanky 6'6 and he has the snatch world record at shw by 214. Yuri had a short torso and he had the snatch record in his weight class before the weight class restructuring. Yuri also went extremely deep in his snatches, a perk he had thanks to his femurs. There are no 'less than ideal' proportions in this sport. Weightlifting is one of the most forgiving sports when it comes to body builds.

I'm training under a coach in my WL club in my city. He has me doing squats/bench/deadlift etc. driving them up, he has me doing some mobility, for my wrists and ankles, plus some squat stretches and DRILLS TO GET A BIGGER BENCH ARCH He doesn't have me doing any oly lifts and he says this is to build some kind of a base of strength and prevent injury for future gains. Is this bullshit? Feels weird because I don't give a shit about powerlifting I just want a strong CJ and snatch.

For reference, my lifts are 165/115/200(sbd) @82 around 13% bodyfat.
