It is anatomically impossible for me to bend my wrists at the angle being pictured here.

The whole point of this grip is to prevent your elbows from flaring out. On your lighter sets/warm up sets, use that grip and consciously keep your elbows in.

Actually the point of this grip is to eliminate the lever arm at your wrist that occurs when the bar slides back in your palm.
By placing the bar directly above the wrist you ensure optimal force transmission.
>>
Wrap your thumb over your index and middle fingernails. Essentially an outer hook grip which cues external rotation of the shoulder girdle, bicep and forearm.
>>
just fucking lift OP who gives a fuck about your grip

Just watch this video at about 1:50, same principle applies to bench as well

It's not a question of where he grips it, it's a simple question of weight ratios.
>>
>>34550507
Most important thing about that grip is that you keep the weight loaded on your forearm rather than your wrist. Don't think too hard about it. Things are always a little different since everyone has a different body.
>>
OHP is the weirdest shit. in the gym I can barely do 40 kgs for 5 reps lifting from a rack with my hands carefully gripping like in OP's pic. At home I can do 47 kg easily just lifting the bar off the ground giving zero fucks about gripping properly.
>>
>>34551310
Just see this OP, problem solved.
>>
How much pressure should I be applying with my fingers? What about my thumb? Am I just using them to keep the bar stable? Should I be able to lift an empty bar with my fingers completely open?

Thanks for all the help so far guys.
>>
>>34551401
the bar you have at home is lighter
>>

I have taken that into account, it should be 10 kgs, and it actually weighs a little over 7 kg. I got some bullshit weights I got from a yard sale. I used my bathroom scale to find the actual weight.
