hey /fit/, I just started working out recently so this might be a stupid question

If muscles are being worked when they retract, how come there are no chest exercises that involve bringing your arm all the way across your body, like, to your opposite shoulder? Most just seem to stop in the middle

Try some single reps at a high weight. Use a smiths machine if you don't have a spotter. You should feel your chest muscles nearish your armpit straining.

I'm aware that using free weights is always better than machines, but I do use those machines for squatting because I don't know how else to avoid hurting myself if I'm trying to max
