If you want to get technical, a deadlift is the only "real lift". Squats use a rack, bench also use a rack, deadlift is the only lift that doesn't require equipment.

And deadlifts are not overrated at all lol, I would argue that deadlifts are better for overall development than squats but I don't want to make anyone sperg out.

Saying the bench press is more of a lift than a deadlift, whatever that is even supposed to mean, is hilarious. You lay on your back and unrack a bar and move it to your chest and back up, it's considerably easier technique wise IMO.

Weightlifters have their own exercises to train pulls, go ask an actual weightlifter if you don't believe me, they do very little deadlifting, and some coaches say to not deadlift at all because it in grains bad motor patterns when cleaning.

Bench press and squat racks are typical to see in a weightlifting gym for strength building though.

Yes, try and push yourself hard but if you feel like you cannot hit something then don't go for it.

Here is rough outline of how much to increase attempts;
Bench: 5-10kg (usually closer to 5 unless it feels REALLY easy)
Squat: 10-15 (usually closer to 10)
Deadlift: 10-20 (usually around 15)

Layne Norton did the same thing. There are a few ways of peaking generally. In sheiko you've been held down by fatigue for so long that when the volume decreases you supercompensate, hit your skills test, then roughly maintain until the comp. Other training styles which may not leave the athlete with as much residual fatigue going into the last 4-6 weeks before the comp will MURDER themselves with lots of heavy sets so they have something to taper heavily from, thus supercompensating for the competition.
