I'm 21 and a boxer.

My dentist told me I can't get braces while I box because it'd conflict with the mouth guard.

I can reshape the thing using hot water so I think it's bullshit.

Opinions?

Just buy your own hydrogen peroxide and lower the concentration with an inert water gel. Shit costs you a few cents per treatement.
>>
>>31761545
Im a 2nd year dent student. I do as much study as med kids do from what i can gather. Shit theres even a guy in my course who did 5 years med then swapped into dent. The thing people dont realise is that med kids have their study and thats it. Dent kids have their study and also the clinical training that needs to be done before we can even go near a real tooth with a drill. Then on top of all that we have patients we need to be looking after starting in 3rd year.

Our workload is way too intense to not be called doctors at the end of it.

Even if I were to pay for braces or invisalign , my front 2 teeth are so massive I'd still look like a moron. What can I do?
>>
>>31762290
That's what hydrogen peroxide actually does, it's abrasive as fuck not just a bleacher that magically leaves the surface in tact, you can use any of the anti abrasive toothpastes for a recovery agent, but much like the treatments themselves it won't help much, that's why you use low concentrations (start with 7% on a mole basis) and do it in less than 15-30 minute treatments.

i dont know , bruxism tends to produce a marked enlargement of the facial muscles.but thats a disease.

too much chewing gum might give you TMJ problems though.

also only way to change cheekbones is with surgery...cuz you know...bones...
but you might be able to improve your face with botox or hyaluronic injections.google it.

use an over the counter bleaching product.

composite restoration ,although you might have to go for a veneer if the gap is too large

I had braces for a year when I was like 14. I still wear retainers every once in a while (every third day or so) and my teeth are godlike now. I had a pretty big gap in my top teeth. Can I completely replace toothpaste with baking soda? (I already have and there doesn't seem to be a difference other than taste) will it fuck up my enamel if I'm using it everyday?
Also does fluoride actually have any adverse effects on your teeth?
>>
>>31763702
>>31763794
Mouth-breathing has a long history in that people used to think breathing from, your mouth led to (was not created by) a bunch of deformities. Hence a "mouth breather". I used to be a mouth breather until I got braces (I'm >>31764493). Before I had the braces the orthodontist made me wear a mouth device that basically moved my bottom jaw forward. Essentially what I had was that when my jaw was resting my teeth weren't resting on each other properly and my chin would angle down to keep my mouth open. Now at normal resting position my mouth is closed.
>>
>>31764527
well , we have a few options

1.a removable denture , but young people hate that

2.implants

3.bridge (stay away from this as much as possible)

depending on the situation and your financial situation
>>
>>31761179
Toothpaste really doesn't matter. They're all basically equally effective.
>>
>>31764470
but if yellow is the natural colour of my teeth i can still bleach them white right?
>>
>>31764623
Are implants ok with boxing though? If not should I get a removable denture and remove it before fighting?
>>
>>31764560
i would trim a little from the other side and then add composite to the place near the gap.
there would still be a small gap ,but not too noticeable.

ofc you can always go for lingual orthodontics, they put white braces behind your teeth...nobody would notice

>>
>>31764567
baking soda is ok but you need a source of fluoride.so maybe use a fluoride mouthwash once or twice a day.

too much fluoride can cause fluorosis , which can produce white clouds on your teeth, sometimes these clouds will become stained and become brown.

also too much fluoride can cause death.remember kids,if you ever get fluoride poisoning, drink lots of milk.
>>
>>31764666
Okay.
So there's plenty of options. When I get my bonus at the end of this year I'll look into getting my busted grill fix'd.

Figures this suits the thread. I'm finally going to start the process of getting my teeth fixed. Tired of looking like a hobo when I'm smiling. They are quite crooked and I have a slight overbite. Anyone have experience with getting this corrected? I read in some cases they 'break' your jaw and put it in a better position. Did this improve your jawline? At the moment it's shitty even with low bodyfat (not horrible, but could be better). I hope they won't have to break my jaw but I can barely put my teeth on each other and my tongue is used to being curled up in the back.

Pic. related, my teeth are crooked worse but it's a similar overbite

I've been offered free bracers, but I'm not sure if I should get them. I'm 23 and I already look kind of young. Also... is there any way at all to whiten your teeth without damaging them?

And before you ask if I smoke while I drink coffee 6 times a day, I do not. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss every other day or so and regularly use mouthwash.

Would you guys say you would be bothered more by crooked teeth, or discolored ones?
>>

No. I was the only one in my family with it. Getting braces was the best thing I've ever done in my life, bar none. Nothing else has been better for my confidence or my aesthetics, in my opinion. Having crooked teeth when you're older than 20 is just weird. Not trying to be a dick, mine aren't perfect either, but it's just weird for an adult to look like a child when smiling.

I dont drink soda, or anything other than milk/water really. Don't hardly eat candy, and brush my teeth once-twice a week. Never have bad breath, had maybe 3 cavaties in my life and they were all at young age when I used to eat candy. Is this bad, or is brushing 2x/day snake oil?

It's a great feeling to constantly get compliments on your smile and to feel great to smile all the time. Girls CONSTANTLY compliment me on my smile (I do that gay half-smile that chicks love). If my teeth were all still all fucked up I would hate smiling.
>>
>>31764788
How do I actually know if I have it or not? If I rest my jaw muscles completely while standing upright, my mouth opens about a centimeter and I also have a slight overbite.

Does this mean I could also be a mouth breather and there's something orthos can do to improve it?

I agree and I have the same problem. Fucking japs. You know what's even crazier is they are getting that dental surgery done where they flare out their canines because it's "kawaii". I think it's called yaeba, I don't know what the actual english term is. See pic.
>>
>>31764997
actually there is a test for that
do this

close your mouth
put your hand near nostrils
see if you can feel air coming through
>>
>>31764997
Do you breath through your mouth or nose? That's how you tell. I breathe through my nose now. My room-mate is an insane mouth-breather and you can tell just from listening to the dude, it's like a jet engine. There is still a gap in between my lips (like half a cm)when completely resting. You should just go see an ortho or a dentist and they might refer you to an ortho if it can be fixed. It's free to consult (at least here it is).

>best chewing gum

The best chewing gum for your teeth is a Xylitol chewing gum.

Trident now has Xylitol in it, but it's not much. I'm not going to find it for you, but there are published studies that recommend a certain number of milligrams of xylitol for 30 minutes after a meal.

Higher-content Xylitol gums are kind of shitty to chew. They tend to be 'natural', so they're kind of waxy and go flavorless quickly. But since your goal is just to change the pH level in your mouth after a meal, that's fine. Chew it for 30 mins, spit it out, and switch to a tasty gum if you just like chewing.

okay this isn't quite dental but it's about my lips. my fucking lips are -always- dry and it's infuriating. i drink enough water my urine is almost never yellow (except in the morning) so i feel that's not it. i live in the chicago area and have to stay indoors heated, and outside it's fucking windy, so i figure that contributes.

but i feel like i'm addicted to vaseline, if i don't put a little dab of it on my lips every day my lips feel dry and rough and awful. i don't ever put on shit like carmax or lipchap cause it smells weird to me.

i just want to be off the smack. please help..

You really need custom trays if you want to bleach your teeth effectively.

I had some made by DirectWhite.com. I think it was about $70. They send dental alginate (powder that mixes into a quick-setting rubber). You mix up the alginate, press it into an impression device, then bite down on it. Send it off, and a couple of weeks later they send back custom trays.

They also sell bleach. It worked pretty well for me. If I recall correctly, tooth bleach is carbamide peroxide, which converts to hydrogen peroxide upon contact with your saliva. You'll see ridiculous numbers like "70%", but that's pretty meaningless. It converts to a much lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide.

Consider buying a non-American toothpaste with Novamin in it (I think Proctor & Gamble bought the rights to distribution in the USA, and now you can't find any toothpaste here with it) to strengthen your enamel. MI Paste is also supposed to work.

>>
>>31765615
I think vaseline is your only option.
Only thing I can think of is don't ever fucking lick your lips that makes them dryer especially if it's cold,
>>
>>31765615
Are you on accutane or something? Vaseline and other petroleum based oils doesn't work for me personally either. Try a water based moisturizer. I avoid lip products in general and just use a my bulk or facial moisturizer.

After I shower, I put on some coconut oil. A very small amount all over my face, including my lips. Works great for me.

Here you go.
>>
>>31765615
If you use a lot of lip balm and vaseline your lips dry out automatically as soon as you stop using them. Your lips get "addicted" to it if makes sense.
I think there are types of vaseline that don't cause this, so look that up. Your lips might need a break from being constantly moisturized by an outside source.
>>
>>31765850
See it doesn't look like you have a severe class 3, looks like it's skeletal unfortunately, I think it's just camouflaging if you don't want surgery, so that means you'll still need to wear braces for a couple of years and then wear a retainer for rest of your life at night.
If you live in the UK the NHS provides the treatment for free if you're under 17 or 17 but in full education.
Dunno about other systems though.

Shit, sorry for not actually lurking, here i go:

>>31761546
Yes, only after brushing. Gum/water rinse after eating

>>31761554
Chew after every meal to remove debris. I chew throughout the day, this produces saliva which balances out the oral pH, not allowing cavities to develop

>>31761558
All have mostly the same effect. In brushing, paste is more of a lubricant, 90% of the job does the brush. I recommend an electric toothbrush, simple one for ~20EUR, not a fancy one. Does the job much better

>>31761559
You wont get the same effect as professional ones. Poorfag versions are those White-Strip things, they help somewhat. In the office we use up to 44% hydrogen peroxide, which guarantees 2-3 shades brighter

>>31761568
Worth it. Get a tongue scraper and notice how your bad breath is gone

>>31762317
You can ask the dentist to trim them into a new shape, or make veneers. This is a cosmetic procedure and will result in increased chance of cavities/fractures, but we're willing to take your money and do that to you

>>31762404
It's genetic i'm afraid. In most orthodontic cases the teeth just separate again after treatment. Best bet is to trim them and get veneers.

>>31762698
Normal in small amount. Shills will tell you otherwise. Or maybe im a shill. Oy vey!
