any tips on eating when at uni?
im at a small uni and a meal plan is mandatory for people living on campus, but the food is mostly shit. They'll serve up some tasty lemon cod, but that's like a once in a two week period sorta thing. The salad bar is just stale/old lettuce variants with some more stale carrots/cucumbers etc.
Granted next semester I'll live in one of the apartment-like dorms with full kitchen amenities

tl;dr how did you eat healthy when at uni?

tldr;
Make small meals to eat in about 5 minutes
Meals are NOT a social event
Meals are 5 minute periods in which you stuff your face outside f the lecture hall.
Think water bottle full of milk, Tupperware of oats, peanut butter jar, and canned food.

I live on campus in a massive 20,000+ university. The dining hall is full of crap mostly, but I always try to keep it simple. For carbs I have mashed potatoes/mac & cheese (mixed) or Quinoa or brown rice. Protein is almost exclusively chicken breasts or beef. Then spinach/salad for the greens. I can easily get 4000 calories a day and then some, its awesome.

How have you improved yourself this week/month/year?Lifting isn't life,a well-balanced human being is productive, has hobbies, pushes him/herself to succeed,is charismatic, and strives to live the best life they can. Share your successes, failures, methods, and everything in between.

The sticky is divided like so:
>Recommended Readings.
>Some tips to get your life back on track.
>Study and Career.
>To-do list habit.rpg (If you’re TOTALLY Lost. Start with this one)
>Focus and meditation
>Finance

Basic Recommendations:
>Have a productivity Framework that is flexible. A mindset that gets you going.
>Use a calendar, like google calendar. Hours and shit for things YOU WILL DO.
>Learn to focus.
>Meditate.
>Do routines for things you should do periodically/daily, this should cover daily things or weekly chores such as laundry, cleaning, shopping.
>Identify and Eliminate conflicts within yourself.
>Focus on identifying the time wasters in your life and eliminate them.
>Focus on the essentials. If you try to do everything at once you’ll burnout. Little by little.

Material reading can be tricky. There will be trash here and there as we're not /lit/.

But we have to trust others.
Image related has a detailed list that an Annon provided on a thread a while back. If you got time to kill, click on the image, and read the descriptions

As time goes, the /SIG/ has had a couple of books recommended. I’ve done my best to try to get talks of the authors of such books so you can get a ‘piece’ before you commit.

Google a bit about the book, if you think you can get something out of it, watch the talk.
In my opinion, try getting the books “for free”.
If you read it and get something out of it, consider paying for the book.

>Freedom is having control of your life

You should at least have 3 hobbies/activities.
-One that will pay the bills, gets food on your table
-One that will keep you in shape. (lower you faggot)
-One that you're passionate about and might be able to develop into a career.
--------

If you're into lifting, taking the tips to better yourself should be simple; as you already have built some self-discipline.

Make peace with yourself and the way things are right now.
Stop thinking the world owes you, how destiny ‘fucked you over’, how those guys have it easier.
Accept things as they are, realize that life is cruel and your circumstances are the ones you were given. You can’t do shit about the starting point, but you can move forward.

Don’t focus in what was given to you, focus in what you’ll achieve.

Eliminate the things you dislike about yourself, about your life. Is as simple as, do you enjoy your job? No? Take steps to change the feeling.
How are you gonna make that? You either make your job more enjoyable, or you change jobs. Simple.
You want a girl? how do you plan to achieve that? Are you too socially inept? Work on that.
Are you piss poor and can’t afford a decent living? Work on that too.

No matter who you are, where you are in your life, or how fucked up you think you are.
You can improve your life. Take control. Move forward.
Dreams keeps us alive, fighting for them makes us feel alive.
About 5-7 years ago, I was a fucking train-wreck.
Right now, I'm doing fairly well.

Get some discipline, set some goals and a way to achieve them.
Cultivate yourself, learn stuff, get your shit together.

And realize, understand. None is coming to save you.
You got to make your way through.
You NEED to take CONTROL.
>>

If you're still in School. For fuck sake pay attention.MORE than half of actually doing good in school is attending, the other half is paying attention in class. So then do it.
Or stop it altogether.
If you’re in college and you’re not feeling it, take a semester to think things through.
If you’re in high school, don’t think YOU NEED to enter college to be successful. There are other way
Google just started hiring people who never went to college.
WATCH this talk:
http://youtu.be/iG9CE55wbtY [Embed]

Some learning resources, focusing in code since I’m an ‘IT’ guy:
>duolingo.com
First and foremost. Free language learning tool with a really robust app. THIS IS A MUST. Learning a new language will help you out no matter who you are.
>codeacademy.com
Teaches you the basics, from the ground up.
>codeschool.com/
Similar to codeacademy.
>youtube.com/user/thenewboston
Personal favorite. This guy step by step, learns a shit-ton of programing languages. Give this a check and start watching something you’re interested in.
>codeeval.com
This one I really like, once you get your shit going, it puts you ‘objectives’ to solve through code, last batch are really complex.
>coursera.org
It’s a really nice online-course platform. There are really good things here as well.
>openprocessing.org / processing.org / codepen.io
These sites display some really cool stuff, where you can also check the source code and modify it to see what happens.

For career options.
Choose anything you want, If you want to go into Philosophy or Social studies, That's fucking great. As long as you’re passionate about it, you’ll find a way.
You can always become a teacher or a writer.

BUT BE FUCKING AWARE THAT YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING MONEY. Don't get a loan to study shit that will be expensive to repay.

Other than that, don't enter into something soulless just because 'I'll get money'.You only got one fucking life, don’t waste it doing something you hate.

You must have a to-do list, it's pretty essential.
As for which, there are several options
Google Keep, Evernote or whatever suits you.

But currently I suggest you use:
https://habitrpg.com/
There’s even a /fit/ guild created to keep us in check.
https://habitrpg.com/#/options/groups/guilds/eeb30614-2936-4f1c-9713-117248d10149

It’s certainly geeky as fuck. But Gamification has been proven to work when applied to certain aspects of human psyche. Helps you stay in check and keeping your eyes on the trophy.

Stupid trivial things I used to do, I stopped once I placed them as ‘Bad habits’.
It also has a mobile app, while it’s a bit limited and on construction, it is free.

There are three main categories.
>Habits. These are things you do by impulse, not under a schedule. Can be good or bad.

+Go for a jog
+Sleep early/on time Sun-Thu
+Walk the dog
+Go for a ride
+Cook something new
+Go out and socialize
+Spend time at the shelter

-Smoke
-Drink soda
-Drink beers
-Eat Junk/Dirty bulk
-Stay up late Sun-Thu
-Fap [?]
-Play 1.5+ Hours vidya a day
-Shitpost

>Dailies are things you ALWAYS do. Every day or certain days of the week. Planned, they are only good.

+Lift (m - w - f)
+Eat your macros(daily)
+Buy Groceries (Sa)
+Read 30 min (daily)
+Practice the Guitar 30 Min(daily)
+Study Video Editing 40 Min (daily)
+Cook (We, Sa)
+Do your daily points in duolingo

>To-Do are, well, things you must do. You can have a checklist within one To-Do.

()Fix the shelf
()Go to the post office and send the package
()Buy the ticket to the concert
()Pay the landlord
()Organize my trip to the moon
—()Get the rocket tickets
—()Get the reservation for the moon Hostel
—()Buy some moonars to have some local money
—()Buy a map of moon city

Seeing the numbers go up (or health go down) is a weird sort of motivation. I can vouch for it. Give it a try, if you have no idea where to start, This is a good one.

Fill your bad habits, put the to-do’s and take it from there.

Meditation and focus is taking a Long fucking while. While I do meditate, It's not my strongpoint, so It doesn't come as easy.
Boils down to, meditation is really advisable in today's world of instant gratification.
It's important to listen to your own voice from time to time.
Mediation will help you focus on the long run, as you gain control of yourself.

Some (non-curated)resources I've been mentioned on the way:

As for Finance. That's also under construction.
But managing your own money is fucking important.
I'm just scratching the surface on it. I advice you check this:

PERSONAL FINANCE

To get started, you obviously need to get an income sorted, now, there are 2 main ways to make money, work for somebody else, or earn money yourself.

Working for somebody else is self explanatory, you go out and get a job, busting your balls, normally for peanuts if you don't have a great career, and doing that day after day, year after year. Is this always a bad thing? No, most people start here in fact, it tends to be a good, at least consistent way to make money. People do it there whole lives, and that's up to them.

BUT SHIT FINANCEBRAH, I DON'T WANT TO BE BUSTING MY BALLS TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE A LOAD OF MONEY, I hear you say.

Earning money for yourself.

Again, there are two ways to do this. Firstly, is ACTIVELY earning it, creating a business, that you work at and it provides you with profit, and PASSIVELY earning it, meaning you put money you already have to work.

I can't possible cover off every single way to actively make money in 1 post, but if it interests you, look into it. You can start an online business while you already have a job, if you still want the security. You can start a side gig on the weekends, you can import and sell at markets or online. You can jack it all in, and start a physical business (please don't do that without serious thought) Actively earning money is one of the most rewarding things you can do, IMHO

I've heard people say that meditation has worked wonders for their ADD. Anyone here have any experience with that?

Also, will meditation help fix the dopamine downregulation I'm experiencing as a result of years of adderall usage? Can I ever reach that place that I get to after taking adderall - like I can do anything, limitless motivation - without drugs?

I need help with getting a part-time job, specifically writing a resume.

I can explain my situation:
>5 years ago enroll in university
>get job at my dads health fitness studio
>eventually made manager
>work for 4 years and have to drive like 150km to get to uni, so couldn't cope well with uni
>decided to study part-time
>dad gets cancer
>forced to close his studio
>lose job
>sell all everything I bought for my apartment
>still have to pay taxes and rates on land I bought, and pay for a carer for dad
>couldn't live in my own place anymore
>moved into my mums house closer to uni(parents separated)
>decide to focus on finishing degree
>only 3 units left, so barely any study
>insanely fucking bored and need an income because eating into my savings big time
>Never had a resume
Can I put my manager position on the resume? Even though the business no longer exists and my dad would be my only reference?

adderal permanently alters the chemical receptors in teh brain. the extent of the damage is impossible to measure, but you may subjectively determine how bad it was.

in the end, hard or easy, though, your actions are determined by conscious response mechanisms within the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

we all make hard choices every day, to endure, to perservere. for some the choice is easier or harder, but we all make it.

the damage is done. it's on you now. if you fail you can't blame the drugs.

>>31742262
But isn't the whole point of meditation to clear your mind, to not think anything?? How can I do that while trying to figure out the answers to my problems?
>>
>>31742432
Isn't the brain elastic? Aren't there ways I can "fix" the receptors?
>>
>>31742456
Meditation isn't necessarily about clearing your mind, for me it's a time to gather my thoughts and think about them critically, it's uninterrupted thinking time. I usually find that when I analyze and inspect why I'm thinking certain things, it's easier to let that thought go, which is where clearing your mind comes in

well its not the healthiest, I got a weekend job cooking at a restaurant when I was at uni and ended up getting most of my food for free from work constantly.

It's definitely not whole foods, but working as a line cook gives you a lot of access to fairly fresh food and access to a commercial kitchen gives you freedom to make whatever the fuck you want with a little bit of imagination. Also lots of qt waitresses.

I was hungry skeleton so it was awesome for me, I was eating chicken, cream sauce and rice, marinated steak, marinated cod and salmon, tamales, that were all restaurant quality everyday.

Less food you have to buy = better quality food you do have to buy.

So my main thing is socialization. I have a job that's great and I love it. It's a passion of mine and I learn something new almost every day, and it pays very well.

But my social life is kind of stunted. I guess in school I focused more on grades than people. I didn't have the typical college experience. I did play football in school but it was D3 and I didn't start. That's where I picked up my lifting habits though.

I get 5/10's off OKC easy enough but I want a true fit gal.

Also my last gf, I made her my entire social scene. We texted/IMed every day, spent every weekend together. It was great, but when she left I was devastated for months and still am.

So I need friends. Now that I'm an adult and out of school, how do I make friends and have a social life? A more balance social life?

I don't have many hobbies. I like lifting (obv), watching auto racing, and I play guitar a little bit. I like classical music.

We talked about how to use religious practice (even if you aren't a believer) for personal development a while back. Which is totally legitimate. Muslim prayer is basically just meditation (except the hudba on fridays), and mormon loonies are fantastic for networking (assuming in the right place with the right people.

don't let that shit intimidate you bro. if she kissed you, she likes you, and she'll kiss you again.
go full beta and you lose her.

Fuck yeah, another stoic bro.

I lack a goal, something to strive for, do you guys have that? i feel like i have no motivation because i dont have a goal in life
>>
>>31753355

You don't have a goal because you don't want one.
>>
I have no friends and no gf and I will never have friends or gf.

How do I stop from killing myself?
>>
>>31753383

Why stop yourself?

Honestly, not trying to be an edgelord here. If you have nothing to live for then there is no shame in ending it.
>>
>>31753382
im not sure how to understand that, but then what should i do?

How the fuck can someone be so pathetic that they would ask someone else what goal they should have?

If you honestly wanted to accomplish something, then you would work towards that.
>>
>>31753465
im not asking what goal i should have, i am hoping for advice on how to find one
>>
>>31753487
three ways
1. try shit until something sticks
2. watch other people try shit until something sticks
3. sit around googling yourself until you get inspired
>>
>>31753418
I probably should just get it over with.

Brah, what do you enjoy?
There is a quote floating about online
"There are two important days when you're alive
1.The day you are born
2.The day you find out why"

Nietszche has something similiar to this line:
When you have found a 'why' in life, 'how' and 'when' doesn't matter anymore.

Go read up on determinism and stoicism
some good writers are

-cicero
-epictetus

Also, I have a lot of anons hate me for this but I will state it again

i kinda get what you mean, but you need to stop being a sad cunt about it and set a goal/find a goal if you can't think of anything

go out and do shit, i don't care what.
reverse flanging a fiddle might be your passion and jaywalking while doing it might be your goal.

i don't care

just get up and do shit, set arbitrary goals for all i care, you might find a real goal/passion along the way.

woah woah hold up. don't listen to a word of 'advice' from these autistic fucks, this isn't how real life works. most of the people posting advice here are weird fucking robots. remember where you are man. the last thing you want to do is take advice from 4chan. damn. and im speaking as not one of them (so listen to my advice)
>>
bunch of fucking mouth breathers.
>>
>>31753651

Taking care of myself is a fill time job, chief. Other people and their bullshit need to stay the fuck away from me.

Just came out of a 2 and a half year relationship. If you've just got into a relationship I think ive got some helpful advice if anyone wants to know
>>
>>31753815
Yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing your two cents.
>>
>>31741240
Just say hi, hello, hows it going, and force yourself to keep talking, don't overthink, and just keep it casual for example what i been doing

>at work always see a qt a couple times a week, never say much
>one day decide to change it
>go in, say "hey how's it goin?" "It's okay blah blah" then i say stuff like "a lot a work or what"
>eventually it leads to understanding her, people either like their work, or they don't and no matter what they like talking about the good and bad
>eventually it leads to talking about music/sports

Anyways the point is just force yourself to keep talking, that is all.

>>31753907

You would prefer these "weak minded people" to obey you rather than live, and end, their own lives as they wish? Why do you feel the need to exert control over other people's lives?
>>
>>31753907

>implying their not already in a terrible place
>>
>>31753956
>>31753999
there is no good reason to end it, nothing is so bad that it can't be improved. if these threads weren't just an egotistical jerk for the cunts who post this terrible "advice" then you would be saying this too. as it is its just a way for bullying cunts to feel better about themselves. fuck off.
>>
The vast majority of you sad cunts are worthless and will always be worthless. These threads serve no purpose except to perpetuate your delusions of actually accomplishing something.

If you truly want to be better, you'll do so without the bullshit touted in these threads. If you're here looking for some way to get something for nothing, you'll always be pathetic
>>
>>31753907
Yeah man, the internet is a dark place and it's a shame that /SIG/ and /fit/ as a whole has to deal with this bullshit too where people actually want to improve their life
>>
1. When you are seeing a girl dont fully commit to just her. there are other women still, and you are still single. dont put your eggs all in 1 basket.
2. Do not cheat. Ever. Being drunk isnt an excuse.
3. Dont always talk about yourself. Ask her questions, even if its just to break silence or if its a retarded question.
4. If she puts out on the first date but you didnt think the date went great. she only wanted a quick fuck. (good short term though)
5. Do not ever flirt with other girls, she will find out even if you delete the texts or conversation. I dont know how they do it, but they fucking find out (personal experience)
6. Just cause you're now in a relationship you still have other friends you can hang out with. I lost a lot of friends because i just didnt speak to them anymore because of my girlfriend
7. Just because you are comfortable in your relationship you should still workout and take care of yourself like you would if you were single.
8. If you arent happy in the relationship dont hide it, talk to her you may feel differently afterwards and things may get better. if not, leave
9. Do not stay in a relationship for the sake of it and just because you think you wont find anyone else
10. Never tell a girl you love her unless you are certain you mean it and have been together over 4 months. Dont say you love her just because she said it to you.
11. If she cheats on you or flirts with other guys no matter how long you've been together, dont forgive her, it will suck but cut all contact and never talk to her again, once a cheat always a cheat
11. Ex girlfriends are ex girlfriends for a reason
12. Dont boast about other girls that you have fucked before her. You just come off as a dick
13. Its ok to say no to her
14. Always stand up for yourself and dont change your views
15. Do not bend your rules and think "fuck it, ill just say yes just to keep her happy and shut her up" girls will test you on what they can get away.
Got more if you want to hear

The advice here, (the recommended reading only really) has actually helped me alot not being a sad cunt. But yeah, if you want something for nothing you're not getting that but it applies to everything in life really
>>
>>31754109

Let people live and die as they wish. Don't bully people into suffering and justify it with your personal moral posturings

Has it actually helped you not be a sad cunt? Or do you only think you're not a sad cunt?

I'd bet on the latter

It amazes me how many people on here (and my course, Law) still do not know the difference between words.

Your - Ownership "Your bike needs fixing."
You're - You are "You're a faggot."

Where - A place "Where are we going?"
Were - Past tense "Were you out last night?"
We're - We are "We're off to Britain."
Wear - To put something on your body "Wearing this made me look better."

There - A place "Over there!"
Their - Ownership over an item "Their protein powder."
They're - They are "They are a skeleton."

Which - To decide between something "Which colour shirt should I wear?
Witch - A woman on a broom
>>
>>31754223

Why?

Because they don't abide by your personal moral code? You dont know the first thing about what these people are going through. Let people make their own decisions.
>>
>>31754224
