I ran a 4k this morning and did a lot better than I usually do by giving myself a speech in my head during the run. I found it pretty helpful, I'd suggest it to any of you guys while you're racing or competing for something.
I told myself that I trained harder than everyone else here. I cared more. I deserved the win more. I asked myself what would my mom think if she knew I didn't give it my best shot (a phrase that my family has said for a couple generations now)? And then I ended up finishing in the top half of the runners. And two weeks from now at the first cross country meet of the season I'm gonna finish in the top fourth of runners.
A lot of you probably don't care but I wanted to tell you guys who are looking for motivation, because the best motivation comes from yourself. If you tell yourself you can do something, allow yourself to have that disconnect from the part of your mind telling you you can't and your body, you'll be successful. You'll hit that PR. You'll lose that last 5, 10, or 15 pounds. And you'll know the best feeling in the world when it finally happens.
Don't have too many /fit/ related ones, but i'll dump some other ones as well when I run dry.

The fact that my motivation folder has a lot of shirtless jacked men in it, does not necessarily imply I am gay (hint: I have a larger folder of fit women).
