Here is my very first weight routine from when I was a junior in high school:
>15 lb dumbbell curls
>rest one minute
>rest one minute
>15 lb dumbbell flies, lying on my bed
>rest two minutes
>repeat 5 times
Every other day. I genuinely thought I was making gains. It wasted quite a bit of my time as well, because of how much I rested.

Because it actually requires a modicum of effort and you have to actually manage what you eat

I started with ditching soda/chips/sweets. Then tracking my intake with an app on my phone, weighting everything going into my meals, scanning barcodes of premade stuff, imputting exercise and bam, almost 3 months later and im at 195 from 230 ish with minimal actual effort put into work outs (I typically walk a lot). I know that rapid loss is gonna slow soon which sucks but damn I feel pretty good, I wanna keep feeling good.
And this has the added bonus of pissing off my boyfriend's mom when I fit into the the pants she bought on her last shopping binge thinking she'd...
