How to improve vertical jump besides power cleans?
You can slightly improve your vertical jump with box jumps/power cleans/squats and such, but there is no evidence of any training that increases vertical jump. As far as we know, you can't increase your ratio of fast twitch to slow twitch muscle fibers, and you therefore can't increase your Rate of Force Development, and you therefore can't jump much higher.
Are bench presses any different than pushups?
pushups are a much better exercise...
except unless you have a weighted vest or a training partner you can't add weight properly, making the bench press a much more practical exercise overall.
not to mention bench press is much easier to progressively overload.
i myself prefer pushups with band for that there serratus gains and shoulder health. all my barbell pressing is overhead.

hi /fit/ so i'm trying to craft more of an hourglass body, and i want to reduce the size of my waist
aside from dieting, any ideas?
i guess i'm thinking something like this... my waist is about 29" presently, so if i could get down to 26 or less i think i'd be great

If you still need to lose weight well, you know what to do.
Otherwise you can only minimize your waist so much because it is a function of the size of your ribcage. What you can do is try to broaden muscles that might create a more hourglass figure and try to avoid working your obliques if they respond well to training (not everyone gets thick obliques but some people do). They run up and down the sides of your waist so it is possible to make those muscles bigger to create a boxy appearance.

Any tips for sineibe about to join the Air Force?
I've heard it's easy, physically, but curious to hear from others already in.
You can see your own image, right? Those beta loser idiots who just finished basic training? Of course it's easy. I was army and worked in a joint service environment and air force would bitch and whine over the simplest things. Marines get a bad rap as being dumb, but at least they can move a five pound box to the next room without bellyaching about it for ten minutes first.
Why do so many people think chiropractic is quackery? There's evidence that suggests it works and it only seems logical that the spinal cord's positioning can play a role with nerves and such.
Anyone has experience with chiropractic or has any counter evidence?

I would thoroughly recommend doing deep stretching and yoga before you go to a consider going to a chiropractor, unless you have some congenital defect or experienced trauma.
It works and has worked for me. I have a hernia in my t spine + other stuff which limits function by disrupting nerve signals to my right arm. The problem with chiros tho is that they range from
fucking retards ------------------ decent people----------------- actually know what they're doing.
Certificates and requirements also differ between countries which doesnt exactly help. And in my experiences the chance of finding a good one is quite slim, 1 out of 10 if I had to pick an arbitary number.
I have a slipped disc and chiropractic sure helped relieving my symptoms (this and some postural training). Now I make some exercises every day and 1 or 2 visits a year when I feel the need.
That's strange, after a trauma that caused unbearable pain the doc didn't do X-ray before any treatment? My chiropractic wouldn't have touched me without a NMR to be sure that he wasn't going to cripple me.
I see a bunch of /fit/ are meat eaters. What is more important to you that this animal lives a happy and healthy life or that you guys can get 5% more muscles.
