I powerwashed the inside of my leer campershell and it it ripped off areas of gel coat so now there is flaking fiberglass shards spreading.

someone recommended I buy gel coat which also means buying brushes

but you guys also mentioned I could use polyurethane which comes I a rattlecan which seems waaayyy easier and cheaper, what should I use?

***last time I got banned before I could get clarification***
>>
Why not use aerosol bedliner on the whole inside?
>>
seems ugly and heavy. is it cheap? and it stocks to fiberglass, ya?
>>
>>997948

there was a thread similar to this not long ago... my guess is OP didnt get the replies he wanted and is re posting this shit. heres a protip. DONT PRESSURE WASH FIBERGLASS OR PLASTIC

fuckin seriously sheesh
>>
I got banned from the forum for a couple days and the thread 404d. I think I used a girl getting her face jizzed on as original post somewhere

but yeah. I never got clarification rather simply adding polyurethane spray would be enoigh

Yeah man, no porn on blue boards.

What do you mean brushes with gel coat? Ain't no brushes. You buy a kit, it comes in two tubes with a spatula to smear it.

Mix the appropriate amounts from the two tubes. Use the spatula to smear the chipped area. Smear it smooth but a little expressed.

Then sand it flush
>>
^^^are you implying that i cannot fix it by simply spraying it with polyurethane rattlecan spray?
>>
>>998640
yes. the correct way to fix it so that moisture won't get in is to re gel coat it. poly doesn't last forever.

When I worked at a boat yard, we would pressure wash fiberglass boats all the time when they came out of the water.

Washing smooth gel coat is no problem. But this fucking dumbass washed the interior of the cap where the glass fibers are exposed. They supposedly leave them exposed because of weight or some shit like that. But sanding them down and spraying a thin coat to seal wouldn't add any weight at all.

Anyway, if you want to fix it just head to home depot or whatever, and get some epoxy resin, and a large paint brush and a pre-paint degreaser or white spirit.
You will need about 1kg of resin.

First clean the area properly by wetting a clean cotton rag with whatever you bought. Then scuff with rough sandpaper like 36 grit or something like that and wipe with the cleaner again.
If you want, you can get the finish reasonably smooth trough the sanding. It will mean less coats of resin.

Then mix the resin and hardner per instructions and paint it on quickly and in a thin layer before it starts to kick.
Don't let it cure completely before applying the second coat.
Keep aplying resin until you cover all the glass fibers by at least 1mil.

If you do it properly, you can power-wash the inside as much as you want without causing damage.

And don't use foam brushes. They will react with the hardner.

White spirit doesn't dry completely, you need acetone to get it done properly

But everything else you said was spot on. Pity, as OP is unlikely to bother. He sounds like the destructive rather than constructive type

Methylated spirits is perfectly fine for prep, you wet wipe, then go over with a dryvrag before it dries. Also, use a tac cloth.

the gaskets need replacement, the top paint sealer layer is flaking, third light is broke, it leaks a little during big rain, my roommate dragged it around a shed filling it with trash at one point and worst of all it is too short, I cant even sit up In there. the brown cap looks awesome on the dark green truck, though.
I paid $140 for it and then another $17 for lock and 3keys

I'm thinking of just looking for a new one that has a higher roof.

will a 96 Toyota Tacoma/pickup shell for on a 2000ranger bed? the footprints are both 72x60in but I know it can get funky butting up against the cap or somethin

cab*

I sprayed it with the can and then after decided to refresh this page on my phone and found some replies
