You could make a compressed air tank. Those bottles can hold 100 psi.

Oh and also kill yourself for making this shit ass thread.

I have over 250 1,5L empty water bottles on hand.
I was planning to make a kayak, or at least some kind of floating platform out of them.
Any ideas on how to do so?
>>
>>990624
... Displace enough water to float while still being able to safely occupy your vessel.
>>
Partially fill with muratic acid. Roll up a wad of aluminum foil in to a stick shape. Insert in to bottle. Cap. Shake. Throw it towards your friends, or just hold on to it for a minute. Profit.
>>
>>990624
Take a flat piece of plywood and set all the bottles on top of it upright as closely spaced as possible and build a wooden form surrounding the bottles to hold them in place, then attach another piece of plywood on top so you have essentially made a wooden box with bottles inside. Water will get into the container, but not the bottles.

The displacement from the bottles (ignoring the small amount the wooden frame will displace) will be enough to support well over 800 lbs.

So wait, whats the math here?
From what I read, I understood that if I had empty 2L bottle fully submerged, it would displace 2L of water.
Not calculating in the compression and weight of the bottle, it should support anything lighter than 2kg (2L of water).

Am I understanding that right?
>>
OP check out this guy he made a floating island with plants, trees, dirt, and a house with plastic bottles as the base.
>>
Sorry here is the artificial island guy video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnLhWpy_nqI
>>
>>990914
1.5L = 1.5 kg of water displaced
1.5kg*250 bottles = 375 kg
375 kg = approximately 825 lbs

Altogether, it will support the same amount of weight as the weight of water displaced. And the wood is also going to be lighter than water, so altogether it would probably support 850 lbs or so.

Alright.
Assuming weight of 100kg, just to be safe, I dont want to barely float.

So, 100kg->100L of water displaced->about 67*1.5L bottles.

I would love to make it into a kayak, I liked kayaking and there is a small river and breddy big lake nearby.

I tried to come up with few ways to position/tie bottles together into vaguely kayak shape.

First thought was to tie them by the necks like a ladder and then make it rigid by connecting to wooden pole running the length of the kayak, lying on the bottlenecks.

Roughing it up it would be about 300x60cm platform.
Thats kinda long.

Second thought would be somehow tying bottles parallel to each other in sections of seven or eight bottles and then tying those sections to one or two poles running the length to kayak.
Sadly, after calculations it wouldnt be any shorter.

The length bothered me because it would be awkward to transport throu bike.
It would seem however that a bit over 3m of length and 60cm width are standard kayak size, so that already sounds promising.

I also seriously entertain a thought of putting whole thing/encasing it in the some kind of big trashbag, maybe the kind they use for construction sites, the thick foil ones.
That would prevent water from getting between bottles and wetting my ass, but more importantly it would kinda enhance buoyancy, I think? Combine it with how bottles would kinda curve around my body as I sit in it, it should behave breddy kayaky.
If I find bags big enough to fit whole thing in, that is.
Then strap something like thick tarp to the bottom from the outside to make bag punctures more difficult to happen and done!

As you may see, I have kinda big hopes for this project.

Please point out any misconceptions I might have or mistakes.
I really want this to work out.

Put antifreeze in it, or don't fill it fully, leaving room to expand.
>>
>>991282
If you ignore the retarded white hippies trying to be green, this is only done in poor shitty countries. The poor shitty countries tend to be near the equator where freezing is never an issue.

Also you generally put some bleach in these to prevent algae and shit from sprouting and to increase the light transmission which also lowers the freezing point.

35 bottles tied on the wall.
Kayak guy >>991115 here, started tying some bottles together some time ago, and Im halfway done!

Tied at three points- neck, middle and bottom- with white plastic string I have whole bigass spool lying around.

Whole shit feels quite solid together, it might just work.

I tied all 35 bottles first by the neck and then I added middle and bottom strings.
As a result , two or three last bottles are a tiny bit misaligned.
For the second part Ill try tying it in all three spots simultaneously, bottle by bottle.

Pic related, taken with my shitty potatoweb camera.

Might require a special trip to the hardware store, of he asks his parents for a ride he'll have to explain why and they'll say no, unless he can come up with a good enough lie.

However, the cleaning product "the Works" will work just as well for this application, and is sold by most general merchandise stores that sell cleaning products. Even some gas stations have it.

I've done really quick and dirty homebrewing with them. Wouldn't recommend it if you can find something better, but they'll do after a couple of tries to figure it out. For extra cheapness, use a balloon with a pinhole in it for an escape valve.
