I saw a glossy OSB finish a long time ago and fell in love with it, I'm trying to obtain that look

I did this. Had to refinish it to not look like shit. It still looks like shit.

The first one was just a clear coat, it really didn't fit in on a dark oak desk. Second was black rattle can covered in laquer. I've done laquer before and I couldn't get a good finish because it starts uneven and no amount of sanding will get a flat look. Maybe if I tried to layer it an inch high it might have worked.

Honestly even MDF with rattle can looks better

Start with the best ply you can afford. OSB is for house sheathing

whazt size of speakers - home things, or PA-size cabs? I dont think you wanna do this (OSB) in general, and definitely not for large cabs. Its not a dwell aesthetic contest, everyone saying use MDF, but, you dont wanna listen..

There is no "good" finish for OSB. Pretty much anything that would qualify as "good" is ultimately just slathering on something so thick that you can't tell it's OSB.

In that vein, my suggestion is to slather on bondo or some other filling agent, smooth/sand it out, then paint it until you can't tell that it's OSB.

I think a roller with poly or lacquer would probably be best bet for OSB but that's really depending on how smooth you sand the wood. Roll a few times then foam brush the final coat. Obviously sand between coats. Keep in mind shit saturated in poly,lacquer,stain, anything oil based really can self ignite.

OSB is for cheap tract houses and grungy Mexican pop-up shops.
