How many of you guys have experience with modding a mechanical keyboard? I'm rocking a Steelseries 6GV2 (for 2 years now) and I still love it so much.
I really love the completely blank key caps on modded keyboards, but they are expensive and the enter key is sold nowhere (its this long enter thingy). I thought maybe sand the key caps and spray paint them. Maybe some more ideas I could do?
Is there any purpose to blank key caps?
Aside from acting smug and elitist when someone not very familiar with computers tries to use it, of course.

If you're going to buy a higher-end device, don't you want it to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible? Not like keyboards are some kind of super high-end thing, but there's a reason we pay more instead of getting a cheap shitty keyboard.
If you can touch type, labels serve no functional purpose and are therefore unnecessary. Therefore, nothing of value is lost if they are left out to create a more pleasing design.

Depending on the key cap material and color, you might just be able to dye the caps completely one color. So if it's a black font printed on a white cap, you could just dye them black.

I built this over my winter break from college. Handmade the case from some spare wood and put some finish on it. I laser cut an acrylic sheet using some autocad designs for the plate which I don't recommend because it flexes so I'm going to use aluminum this summer when I have some time to rewire everything. Cherry MX clears and some blank DSA caps. Used a teensy board to wire everything up have some more pics too

If you want arrow keys or a numpad buy a computer with arrow keys or a numpad.

Anyone had any luck with fixing membrane keyboards? My one key and left ctrl stopped working, i cleaned the membrane contacts, worked for fifteen minutes, stopped again. Scratched the contacts, worked for ten minutes, stopped again. Rubbed a pencil over the contacts and leads, worked for 25 minutes and stopped. Anything else I can try?
