Hey guys, I was practicing desoldering on an old MoBo and i stumbled upon the guy in the pic (ALI M5819P).
I googled for a while looking for a datasheet but no luck... Not even translating from chinese really helped... I found the product brief, I know it's a real time clock but that doesn't really help me, so if anyone could suggest me what should i google, maybe equivalent chip or something like that I'd be really thankful...
Also, tell me your stories, what do you do in these situations? Do you just throw them away or keep them hoping for later?

When it comes to this situation half of /diy/ are hoarders the other half throw everything away.
Im guilty about keeping some things Ill probably never use, but then when I throw it away I will need it in 3 months. I once had a piece sitting in a bucket for 10 years, threw it away and then needed it about a week later.

But with this being an anonymous chip I don't think its anything spectacular and I would chuck it.

Hey anon...

I have been doing electronics for quite some time, and have hoarded lots of components..

But during my studies to become an EE, I have come to find that used ICs, semiconductors and electrolytic caps are of low interest, as it tend to deviate much in tolerance, might be damaged partly by use, and from the process of harvesting and resoldering..

Ofcours some components might be worth salvaging..

Stuff I do salvage is mechanical solutions like rare pots, buttons switches, some large caps, heatsinks, some inductors, power resistors (5w or more)
Mechanical varcaps. Fuse holders..

Most semiconductors are rather cheap, or alternative solutions can be constructed..

OP here, can't thank you enough. Guess I'll have to improve my Google-fu. Here, have all the cake you deserve.

This. I have used some old ics from boards in a pinch, but in general they are cheap enough to get new from a quality supplier. My exceptions are milspec ceramic ICs, if they're white, purple, and covered in gold I'll hang on to them cause they're just awesome. I wanna build an Intel 4004 computer someday, I got super lucky once and reclaimed a couple of mts-4 parts sets.

Why do you finish each sentence with an ellipsis? Fucking annoying
