/diy/,

I want to activate a button or switch wirelessly, specifically my powerbutton my PC, so that I can turn on my computer from another room and remote desktop.

Any suggestions on the easiest way to do this? I could set up raspi thats always on to just activate the switch but something is telling me thats total overkill.

Cause walking the next room over is too much. Hell since you made it there you might as well stay.

get one of those cheapo wireless remote light turn on/off things and mod it (or if you can find a 3 prong version, no mod needed).

i just use the wake-on-lan feature on my remote computers.

Yeap :S
I have several cheap monitors and small computers I got for free that are purely remote desktop machines to my main PC. It allows me to have a high performance rig in any room. Wanna stream some dope content, bam, wanna play games, bam, wanna work, bam, Wanna access a file, bam. The issue is if i turn off the main PC, it defeats the whole purpose of what I'm doing.

This seems in the right direction, but I don't need to regulate when power is going to it, I need to turn the PC to use the power

Dude seriously? Ok so when I remote desktop, it just would auto wake it up. googling now

Wake-on-LAN, you dummy
>>

not usually, you need to send it a magic packet to wake it up. magic packet depends on mac address of nic.
