When you roll something up it takes up less horizontal space dingus.

if the sheet is 4x8 and you roll it up, there is no way in hell it is going to be more than 8 inches in both directions.
if you roll it width wise, the length will always be 8.
if you roll it width wise, the length will always be 4.
