I'm in the process of refinishing this coffee table but I'm not sure what wood this is... Anyone here might have some idea or insight?

Here's a close up of the grain on the table top.

Its plywood or at least a veneer.
Forgot this image.

I was hoping it wasn't plywood. I cant get a good look at the end grain so I was unsure. The legs and underside seem to be natural wood though, which is what made me unsure.

Its easy to tell. Look at this image: >>949577. Now look at this image: >>949568. You can clearly see in the first that top it made of at least three boards. Yet you see no seams in the second image. That doesn't mean its garbage. Plenty of nice furniture is made with veneers. Its just we cant tell you what the wood is based on a veneer. Wood also can use many different kinds of want in its constructions. Legs and such are often not made of the same material as tops.

I gotcha. Thanks for the input. What do you normally do with plywood/veneer? I was going rub on some Danish oil after sanding, but now I'm not sure.

Looks like rotary maple, not sure though. Finish howeveryou want, it's still wood, don't sand through the veneer unless you like how the bottom of the top looks more for some reason.
