Hey guys, I just unburied an old well at my house, apparently not on record. It's really shallow as wells go, I can see water down about 8-10 ft. Can anyone recommend a good pump that would be able to self prime this distance?
>>
Why does it need to be self priming?
>>
>>946082
It wouldn't have to be. I could get a cylindrical submersible pump you shove down the pipe but they usually start at 300 bucks, and want 220v power from what I have seen. Seems like that might be overkill for this setup though

Why not just get one of these? This will pull from 10 feet no problem

Need to get your nose really close and take a huge sniff...make sure its not an old septic tank inlet.
>>
>>946102
Shhh, you fool! The OP could have pumping shit out within days!
>>
>>946080
Are you sure it isn't just some sort of drain or septic tank?
>>
It may be a dry well
>>
>>946176
pour old leftover paint/motor oil down there OP
>>
get a couple of mexicans from home depot, show them this vid, and tell em to get to work

OP here. Thanks for the good advice, I will try out that Home Depot pump. The water doesn't smell bad and these homes dont have septic tanks as far as I know, but if I do end up spraying my neighbors shit everywhere I guess I'll have to post pics

Is 8-10 feet really even a legitimate water table depth anywhere? Outside of somewhere in the middle of the swamp and ten feet below sea level like Louisiana I guess.

Do people in New Orleans have wells that are just buckets they lower out of their kitchen window?

>>

Not right now, only during hurricane season

Homie that aren't no well. Stick a rag on a string down there, add some food coloring into laundry, toilet, whatever.
Pull rag out.
>>
OP plz respond. Have you pumped poop out yet?
>>
>>946891
Not yet. Pump is being delivered so it may be another couple days before I can unleash hell. If the thread is still up I will post results
>>
>>946990
enjoy pumping out your neighbor's sewage lateral line
>>
>>946080
>pvc pipe
>next to fence, so near the alley?
yeah that's almost certainly a cleanout for your sewer line like the other anons said
>>
>>946080
I doubt thats a well. But anyway for a well that shallow you could use a old fashion hand pump.
>>
>>946080
Make a plumbob and see how deep it is.
>>
>>947461
Looks big enough to also lower a can attached to a string to attain a sample. Water company or the agriculture dept can test it for you.

It's about 25 feet deep. Watershed in this area is really shallow. East Bay area of CA where water is a real issue, thats the whole reason I'm even attempting this possibly shitty venture.

>Is 8-10 feet really even a legitimate water table depth

Yes. Also 7 feet, and 5 feet. But not 6 feet.
>>
that's not a well what's wrong with you why would you think that's a well.
>>
>>946104
i legitimately laughed
>>
>>946259
you can't deny they are fucking creative, tho
>>
>>946080
would they have lined a well pipe with PVC?! I wouldn't think so.
>>
So it's legit OP?
>>
>>948915
I think it probably is because it doesn't smell bad from the samples I have taken, and my neighbor is convinced it's just like his mini well, but I won't know for sure until the pump arrives. This thread will probably be archived by then, but if some anon posts a webm of brown water shooting all over the place then thats me and we will know that it was just a cleanout instead of a well.

Recycling. Nice.
>>
>>948993
well most of the water that goes down your drain is not shit filled. looks can be deceiving.
dump 2 gal of thick dye down your lowest drain and then start flushing it through with a hose. see if it shows in that pipe that everyone thinks is a lateral line cleanout
>>
>>950523
yeah that poo meat guy said it is such a waste of good clean drinking water. less than 2% of the volume of sewerage is actually poopoo or peepee
