Was thinking about getting a drone, I just got some property in colorado and would like some aerial photos of the land, and for a bit of fun. Any advice or information for me?
I used to be knowledgeable on the hobby before drones were really a thing, back when they were just called quadcopters and rc planes.

I would recomend something with GPS lock. Even if you plan to do all of your own flight a GPS lock will make the drone overall much more stable. DIJ is the gold standard in multi roters however there are some great Chinese knock offs that use the same parts with an open source control board. The quanum nova is a good DIJ phantom clone at about $300. If you are looking for hex layout make sure you have the capacity to install a second battery.
