> no current projects thread

finally got around fiinishing my book turned key hanger.
I used gelatine for glueing together the pages. I used twice the concentration as suggested for food applications and that shit’s now hard as a rock. Pre-drilling the holes for the hooks worked perfectly (during the drilling I clamped the pages together for good measure, though).
I used Tesa ® Power ® Strips™ to attach it to the wall.

Currently levelling my section and planting is coming up next. It's summer in kiwiland and I'm fucking dying in the heat.

Rotary hoe hired from the hire shop makes things much better. I probably couldn't do this with a spade.
>>
Very nice.

I'm not sure if any of the guys (or girl) that do stuff ever frequent diy. Most have abandoned the place in the last year, to be replaced by whiny kids.

I can't get over how fast this board moves now, compared to days of yore, and how crap the content is.

Well done though OP, hope there's more where it came from

Just because I like this board, or at least it's subject.

It's going to be a clock, pic related is cast in plaster of paris and going to become the mold that I cast the final product out of cement. Haven't tried casting cement before so hopefully I learn something.

Made this the other day.

I need advice on painting it.

I primed it, painted it (spray can), but then I put a lacquer on it, it seems to make no difference.
I put the lacquer on, touched it and my finger was black, the lacquer was liquefying the paint?

Help and advice on painting metal for outside.

My "five finger light gun interactive analog audio video synthesizer" project is moving along. I fixed several problems on the main control system and laid it out on a single board because breaking it into separate modules and stacking them was dumb. I've put together two of them so I can play with both hands.

Audio output board is done, but I've got a lot of other ideas and will design a new one for the other hand.

I'm finally happy with the breadboard prototype for the video synthesizer and need to start designing the PCB. I feel like doing a different one of these for the other hand too.

This is the PCB for the main control board. It generates the base VGA signal, has five light-gun type sensors, and generates X and Y voltages representing the position of each of the five light sensors. I also put the audio mixing on this board because it's controlled by the distance the light sensors are from the monitor.

It'll be more impressive when I have all five fingers and the second video stage setup. The design is each finger generates a pattern of lines. Lines are added together and various color patterns are produced from that.

Four days? You go out and harvest the fucking tree yourself? Looks good though, you dye/stain/paint the wood? If so what colour?

I'm the dickbutt who built this >>940607 and I made my first sale to my hairdresser yesterday. The price I would be selling for is £300 including delivery (on eBay/website/gumtree), but I let her have it for £150, it's still £90 profit.

Thought it time to share one of my projects.

Made this stool from pine 2x4 with some salvaged dowel.
Just needs finishing, thinking wax and then glueing together... It also has a bit of wobble but I'll adress that when I knock it apart to apply the finish.

I work 7-7 and didn't want to wake up the neighbors baby so had only about an hour a day to work on it. Yeah I stained it with walnut color i believe and used a finishing wax
>>
>>941304
Yeah I was joking about the time, I have a neighbour who works some nights in the ICU department of the local hospital so I have to pick my time when grinding metal.

I will try a walnut finish, I've got a tin of Teak but it's to dark for my taste, don't do much with wood but planning on doing a grave surround in wood, try and appeal to the hippy's and naturists.
>>
>>941238
Implying harvesting the tree yourself wouldn't be superior, and even more diy anyway... Kidding, mostly!

Lacquer is the hottest medium, it will eat through other paints. In general I'd say only put a lacquer top coat over lacquer paint, but you might be able to put lacquer top over acrylic if the acrylic has fully cured and out gassed for a week. Personally, I wouldn't put lacquer over acrylic in any case.

Fuck, now I want to cut a hole in my floor so you can sit normally.
I'd use the boards I cut out as a lid with a flush ring pull and build a solid wooden box underneath. I'd make sure it was both solid enough to stand on the floor and stand on the floor of the box.
It's not in the same room as the pic but it's the same deal with wooden floorboards over beams [although not as nice as the ones in themy pic, not my house], my house is on a hill and half of it is on stilts, with the room I'd cut the hole in being over the highest part and unseen.
The width of the hole is limited by the length between support beams which I've already checked out and they're just about the right size in just about the right spot.

As for resale value I'd just say it was "extra storage space" which it very well could be used as.

thanks, I actually made two minor adjustments: I had to glue the middle part to the back cover, because otherwise all the keys rattled as soon as I touched the whole contraption;
and I had to reattach the key hanger to the wall such that it now partly rests on the light switch housing (because I have a textured wallpaper and the Tesa power strips don’t work very well on these).

in case you’re still lurking: I also made pic related a while back (it’s for cutting up bottles and the design is heavily based on one you can find at instructables). It does work, however it currently produces a high percentage of rejects, since the whole sled holding the actual glass cutter is too wobbly. Plus, glas is a highly unforgiving material to work with.

wooden cup.jpg

Kuksa / wooden cup. Took me way too long to finish. My first blank was too small and had a crack at the cup wall. The second blank was a burl but it had a branch groving through the cup wall at 2/3 of the height of the cup so I ditched it. This was the third and also had a crack but luckily it was short and stops at the handle

I know it's just something carved out of a block of wood but nevertheless it was a hard project mentally. I've never done one and I never knew how I should progress and how much extra material I should leave in there for the later stages. Because of this and the fact that birch is a pretty tough material to work with, it constantly felt either that I wasn't going anywhere or that I was about to f-it-up when I picked up a pace at removing material.

Tools used for this one: (axe), saw, chisel, crook knife, knife, sand paper. A band saw would've been great.

Started building a small cheap stand for my laptop.
The fan is a stock lga1155 fan because they have amazing airflow for such low wattage compared to other fans.

Small project, I knew it wouldn't take long but I was surprised at how quickly I was able to stick it all together. Just waiting for glue to dry while I'm at work.

The fan is going in the top left corner because that's where the vents in my laptop are.
>>
>>948950
Nice job, OP. I would say though, if you are looking for a bit more stability, or just to make the rifles line up nicer, you could try putting some notches in the bottom part of the shelf for the ends of the stocks to rest in. If that's too much of a pain, some small wood blocks, side by side might work too.
