Hey /diy/
Here's my rough plan for a platform bed, any thoughts?
Specific questions:
1. What type of wood would look good for the exposed parts (B C D E)? The room is light yellow, so something dark i think.
2. Would the box (F G) be more stable, or should i use posts?
3. I have the exposed wood 2' longer than the platform. Should it be the same length x width? I wanted some wiggle/fuck-up room, and if i don't fuck up (!) it'll just hang off by and inche.
4. How can i attach the exposed wood without overly visible screws? Glue? Paint the screws?
I used this project as a base

I may add the floating table and a headboard later
I'm not a regular poster, sorry if don't know how to ask for advice

Oak, stain it dark. You will find that hardwoods are very expensive especially true of naturally dark ones.

Particle board box isn't going to be very strong, but it should work fine for a bed to sit on. Consider reinforcing the corners with dimensional lumber.

I would make the LxW overhang the ratio of overall LxW but your way will be fine.

Pocket holes or screws and plugs or just make them visable and deal with it. Paint sucks if you ever want to take it apart.

big help! thanks man. I'll follow up with progress reports, but it'll take a while. I may not be able to do any work until spring.
