Looks like a handy place for a central communication/daily pocket items storage hub.
Seems decently sized to hold either a flat screen hooked up to a raspberry pi or Mac mini, or even a good place to permanently install a cheap tablet for recipes/shopping lists/house messages/media streaming. In the lower sections, put some things to store keys/wallet/charge cellphones.
And if we're going for weird animal storage, make a termite farm.
