ITT: Korean Canadian builds a shed using unconventional techniques. First step: framing

I don't know what the fuck I'm looking at but I don't like it. I guess I'll start with the glaring omission of any sort of foundation, or did you sink some posts I did not notice? Just lumber sitting on the ground in Canada isn't going to work well.

This whole thread.
Oh god.

You could of make good use of all that wood and time spend but you ruined it.

1. Foundation, even a thin layer of concrete would help.
1.2. If you dont like whole slab stuff, just make 9-12 concrete pole, make them the same hight and level them.
2. The roof is going to fall after season or two from now, you use the weak part of the deck, it needs to be turned as pic related.
3. The walls are crooked.

Damn, I hope you have money and time, so you dont care, otherwise this stuff is gross to watch.

>video
>OSB on a stress point

OSB is to reuse/recycle materials too small to use used as anything else when manufactured They are for contractors to use as large panels in order to put up walls super fast to maintain their monthly quotas It really isn't meant for any other job.

At least use plywood. It isn't the best thing to use, but it won't be subject to particle disintegration due to local humidity changes.

Personally, I'd rather use solid lumber and proper wood joinery. It lasts a lot longer. Has nothing that rusts and weathers better. Then again, I guess I'm being overly picky on a video that uses all pine lumber.
>>
>>919165
What are you going to do? Cut 6000 dove tail joints to just frame the walls? Every joint is a but joint held together with sinkers and plywood is more than enough to make sure the studs don't twist. The exterior of a house/she'd takes the abuse, not the protected internal structure.

You could build a house without nails, but I can build one twice as fast and for half the cost.
Maybe, perhaps under some specific circumstances your way would be more durable, but only as you pass the century mark
But at that point the time has come to explore the wonderful world of masonry.

That ISO container is good to about 100mph wind speed unanchored, is waterproof if the gaskets are sound, and you can easily add man doors if your tire of slinging the latches on the end doors.

You can take a piece of angle and weld it between the corner fittings over the end doors and seal or weld the length so no water can pond in the top gasket as it ages.

You forgot the rest OP

The story is - this guy's neighbor was building a shed and he would go over and take pictures of it due to how poorly it was being built.

Say what you want but he did technically end up with a shed. Not everyone is diy inclined so I guess props for trying? It'd be like you trying to do brain surgery and ultimately fucking it up while a brain surgeon laughs his ass off at your attempt. This guy just didn't know what he was doing so... I give him 5/7 for the effort.

mortise and tenon

>You could build a house without nails, but I can build one twice as fast and for half the cost.

And be four times as shitty.

>The exterior of a house/she'd takes the abuse, not the protected internal structure.

Never heard of snow load? Do you think that only applies pressure to the roofing material?

>Maybe, perhaps under some specific circumstances your way would be more durable, but only as you pass the century mark
>But at that point the time has come to explore the wonderful world of masonry.

I have some knotty pine I'd like to sell you. I'm sure they'd make great wall studs.
>>
>>919551
>I guess props for trying?
No, absolutely not.
>>
>>919580
What a snob. It's a decent shed. It'll have its use.
>>
>>919562
IF you do want to pass the century mark, and you are willing to spend double even triple the cost for a house, you better bet on masonry.

I live in south Italy right now, my neighbors have 120 years old house build with thick studs that cross eachouther and clay, they have only changed the rooftop several times. So I guess it all depends on the climate you live in

Have you ever built a house? Better or not no one builds as such anymore unless you're bill gates. Good luck finding a structural residential engineer and getting a city permit.

Because PLing and adding some through bolts And framing nails(for appearance)wouldnt pass code. If you have the money(which wouldnt require bills gates level of money lets be honest here) and someone who's decently known as an artisan carpenter, anything is possible

> but id see the bolts on the interior!

Make plugs and pull it off as wood pegs. Weld the nut, threaded rod and washer on the interior side.
>>
Built myself a shed years ago.

Started with 6 pier blocks so I dind tneed a building permit (considered temporary)

Used 10 foot and 16 foot 2 X 12 for a rim board plus extra ones for blocking

Used T and G 3/4" plywood, construction adhesive and screws for the floor. A screw every 6 inches into each joist they crossed.

Walls were 2 X 6 for extra strength and had diagonal 2 X 4 braces let into the walls to stiffen them

I used 2 X 4 for the ceiling then added a frame structure to give me a gambrel roof for storage of wood

I used 1/2 plywood glue and screw for the outer shell.

Siding was hand split red cedar shakes and roof is metal

Yes, I'm living in the house I built. Most of the wood came from my own land the rest from my brother's land. I live about 45 miles from the nearest city.

Also, meeting code with all wood timber joinery and pegs is really easy to do. Finding the proper expert is as easy as looking in the Yellow Pages and getting a permit for city is also pretty easy (I own a couple apartments in my late grandparents house and added several rooms to it.)

>>919591
Everything I build is built to last. Why would anyone ever build something that won't last very long? Hell, I grew up in a house that is nearing the 250 year mark. It is just a wood timber, wood siding, house with a metal roof and large sandstone foundation blocks with skirted underpinning. It is the same age as most of the block, stone, and brick buildings in the local town.

>>919692
Nice.

>>919747
Uncared for they start leaking in about 15-20 years. Most people end up getting a new one or building a roof over it. I've seen a few with silver roofing "tar" on them.
>>
>>919089
Woudn't the floor beams start to sink and rot after the first rain?

>Uncared for they start leaking in about 15-20 years.

how does the default roof work? does watter just sit on top, or is it slightly slanted?
>>
>>919908
It is normally flat with ridges every so often. They are meant to stack and/or be fitting in aerodynamically behind a truck or on a train. Rarely I've seen ones with a slightly convex roof.
