Hot air blowers that run on gas, are they gimmick or they can actually do some work compared to classic stationary ones ?

I've seen some very decent wood burning done with one of those, no idea how well it would work for soldering though.

pretty handy for us at work only use it for soldering
though...lasts some time so it's ok

Bought two of these a week ago, one for me and one for my dad.
Pretty good for soldering, haven't used it for anything else.
3 year warranty at 20€ per iron is a pretty good deal too.
And the tips from a Weller Pyropen Piezo also fit right on.
Very useful . the option to use it as a heat gun is what sold me on it. its a bit of a pain getting the temp just right, but I've soldered tiny surface mount stuff to mechanical control cables with it

It's not a 'hot air blower', it's actually a catalytic butane torch. And yes they work pretty good.

>gas powered wood burners
Why?

Portability without sacrificing performance over time.

You put the catalytic tip on and it blows hot air. Stop being pedantic
I use mine to make Creme Brulee. Works like a charm.

I use a Creme Brulee burner to de-solder stuff from junked boards.
Really want a hot air de-soldering station.
Looking at some Aoyue's right now

Aoyue 805A is an awesome tool. Just about any 850 variant is pretty good, but Aoyue is definitely the best in that price range.
