I have a solid quartz bar that is about 8mm thick. How can I cut it in half so it's 6inches instead of 12..

I meant a solid quartz TUBE.
Only option is a diamond saw disk blade I think. There are these diamond dremel disks if I recall correctly.

I'll try that. I have a flex shaft

a blade or a piece of a blade from a masonry saw. you just have to score it and it will break at the score with a little force. quartz is 7 on the mohs scale so anything higher can score it too.

Oh ok. That should be easy, does heating it help it break more cleaner? Is it possible to heat it hot enough with acetylene to just use my torch
Just bought this
Wish me luck
I bought it at a jewelers supply company

Were the owners of the store from Isreal originally?
>>915490
No old white guy. I know him from buying solder a lot
Worked great

in the future if you need it to be a much cleaner and smoother cut use a wet lapidary saw. that jewlers supply you bought that cutoff disc blade from should have one floating around or be able to direct you to one.

just cruois, whats it for?
>>915152
doit with water. the quartz powder cause silicosis
>>915490
Oy vey goyim, this is the Jewlers' supply store!

Acetylene burns at like 3100 degrees C and quartz has a melting temperature of 1670 so maybe

You don't cut a quartz tube, you cleave it. Look at how it's done with glass, works exactly the same way.
Also, if you're going to expose it to heat, keep your greasy fingers off, or thoroughly degrease once you're done with it.
