Glue
Clamps
Dowels
Or biscuits
Router the edge to make them smooth
Alternate growth rings to reduce cupping.

Depends on what you are trying to do. Tongue and groove joints are pretty common. Biscuit and dowels too. Mortise and tenon joints if you know what you are doing. Often times a combination of the above. See video.

OP here.
I found this picture and I just want to know if this is a good idea.

are those...hinges used to rigidly fix 2 boards...

absolutely disgusting.
>>
>>908214
No, its not. If you don't care what the bottom looks like just screw a board to the backside of the board.
>>
>>908216
Would it work though?
>>
>>908221
Depends on what you need it to do.
>>
>>908224
I just need it for the top of a desk.

Hells no its not, just screw/glue two lengths of timber across the back and enjoy your rigid surface.

biscuits you seek

Is this a meme?

it is now

...if that's all you have, and you have to do it RIGHT then, it would probably hold.
Even then, sounds pretty retarded.
>>
>>908135
BLAMP.
>>
>>908214
honestly if you're going to do that you might as well just use a stapler since there is no way that'll do much more than prevent boards sliding off of a supported edge.

hell use duct tape if you're going to do this, it's clear you don't give a shit what it looks like anyways

festool domino joiner
>>
>>908137

this is 100% true, but if you are lazy to learn joinery you can also use a biscuit joiner or domino.

Great alternative that won't show up and is easy would be this dowelmax jig here. It ain't cheap but it does a perfect job every time. It's made like a tank. It Align a perfect dowel joint that is almost as solid as a mortise and tenon joint. (sometime stronger)

Beat me to it. Literally fucking nails.
>>
>>909998
He's using hinges to fasten two flat boards together. There's no way he's going to know shit about floating tenons.

Also as its probably going to be sat on some sort of frame or support, biscuit joints along with glued butt joints and I'd add two or three transverse grain braces to the underside to help with any moisture content expansion.

I have this book.
It's great

What's the book?
>>

I want to know if this is a pic making fun of someone putting hinges on the wrong way, or if they're really using them for "joinery." Not sure which would be worse, but in any case at least measure and use even spacing!
