Hey /diy/

I'm currently in the middle of an electricians apprenticeship, but I was thinking it would be fucking awesome to become an outdoor lineman

>get to see areas most people dont see
>work on powerlines, from helicopters if you get good
>travel the country if not the continent

How does one get into this work?

Know someone in the business that can give you a line on job openings before they are posted anywhere.

Distribution or transmission?

Whichever one allows me to do helicopter work

Lineman here. Never even touched a helicopter.

You'll need to find a job in transmission, then just ask. If you're good at your job you could be stringing or fixing/inspecting existing lines in especially remote areas.

I'm not aware of companies that exclusively do aerial line work though.
