Back then they didn't really do sub-woofers. What you probably have is a two driver system that used a woofer and a tweeter.

You could do a lot with the internals on these. Modern crossovers and drivers would really make itto something special. It would nay be that hard to make a custom crossover and do some simple modeling for the cabinet. They even have crossovers tha are configurable without soldering
