Is /diy/ interested in following my latest project?
My second surplus box came in today, and I will be turning it into a sort of minibar for my dad. Picture related.
Made one before, I'll post the original one below so you can get an idea.
Tips and suggestions always welcome
This is the previous one.
Obviously my current one is much bigger. Thinking about more things to put in it to utilize the extra space. Maybe wine glass holders that hang from the top?
Dig the dog chilling in the background lol

You want some more dog? Here, have some more dog

Nice.
>>1010705
It's for your Dad? Make sure to include specific spots for what he likes to drink then, and i f you want to include glasses, pick them up first so that you can get everything to fit in nice and snug to utilize as much space as you can.
Also cool doggus.

Thinking about including barware in it so he doesn't have to worry about getting stuff that fits. Definitely not completely stocking it like the first one. Money is too tight to fill something this big.
I am now imagining a claymore mine flask...

Nice work anon, I know hipsters would pay stupid money for one of those, it would also appeal to the man cave and shooting community, you could sell these no trouble!
>>1010721
So cute, what breed is that?
>>1010703
Just thinking you could make a custom stand for it, maybe turn it on end so it stands longways and add some LED strip lights for good effect.
A black iron pipe stand might look really good with this.

Golden Retriever or a Labrador, from the look of it.
>>1011012
Definitely having a hard time giving this to my dad and not selling it when it's finished. If it comes out as good as I think it will, I'll probably pick up a second one and sell it.
>>1011013
Husky Lab mix, from what I was told. Definitely think it's that, especially with how he looked when he was a puppy.
>>1011026
Yo man you could probably make brand new ones from the ground up and still pull in some cash. Could look into distressing/ faux aging stuff to the certain aesthetics that would make this popular
>>1010705
how did you finish the wood?
>>1011026
Call it the "Battle Bar" anon.
Hows that for a fucking name... eh!
>>1011030
It definitely be wouldn't be hard, but then they aren't "authentic." These have history to them, which is half of why they're so cool. I may make them myself if it really takes off though.
>>1011203
Sanded the inside down to 220 grit. Few coats of stain with 220 sanding in between, then poly coat with 400 grit sanding and a final sand of 800 grit.

Pretty bitchin' crate. Where did ya purchase it?

Good to see ya, Mr. Trebek

I see what you did.
you clamped your work piece in the middle instead of clamping it properly at the joints. now the top is bowed as fuck because you glued it that way. eventually it will split and break because its going to be permanently under tension and when it swells it will try to escape.
you should also use a saw before using a chisel to get clean sharp edges to where you hacked out the grooves for those hinges to fit.

It wasn't glued together by me you stupid fuck. Anyways, it's also nailed together. That crate is older than you anyways. It's a surplus mortar crate. The box is straight, the picture is a weird angle.
Where did you get the box?
>>1012000
The first one I did? I think the place sold out, their website only shows the green metal ammo cans.
The new one? Go-armynavy.com
They have a bunch of different kinds of crates as well. Be warned, their prices are kind of steep and shipping is expensive

I wouldn't mind getting the measurements for something like this. I already figured it needs to be at least 16in high for the 6 pack but the rest is just whatever you can fit in there I suppose
