I made an Arduino temperature and humidity logger, left it outside for a couple of days and graphed results using excel

got a huge reel of the stuff for free so just cut to the short lengths and use it that way. and thats a right angle headphone adapter made from a jack off a dead cd drive and a plug pulled of a dead earbud. yanked the plug out of the plastic covering and soldered the jack directly to the plug.

450kV Audio modulated Tesla Coil & Arduino controlled robot orchestra cover version of song named "Hello" by OMFG.
It took about 2 month to make the whole project.

I think this is probably the right place to introduce my project.
I hope you like it, /DIY/ Anons.

Really cool setup. Where did you get those seven segment nixies? The only ones I have are the VFD type.
>>
>>1010505
It's called "numitron"
unlike nixie tubes, numitron are fairly cheap, and use lower voltage(about ~5V)
you could easily control it via arduino or some other micro controllers.
I bought some tubes on ebay for my numitron watch project.
I think you could get it easily on there to.
>>
>>1010429

Those are very obviously the cheap things that you can get for china for like $2-3/board assembly, not like he's paying for a real nano

Shishkebabed a 50" cracked Samsung plasma TV and found a treasure trove of components inside.

Made my first ever adjustable power supply using one of four LM2576T-ADJ step down switching regulators, with the schematic from the typical application circuit in the datasheet.

Now I am going to read about adding current limiting to this, and perhaps add all four of them inside a nice case.

Too bad my microcontroller expertise is limited to flashing leds and writing "hello world" to the serial monitor.

The inductor wails like a tiny tiny mechanical fire alarm though. Mighty annoying.

made this clock.

I had old numitron display i built many years ago and never used.
I added a 'backpack' with a standalone atmega8 and a ds3231 RTC module.

prototyped on arduino, whent with atmega8 programmed through ISP, meaning no bootloader and zero boot time.
displays time the instant power is applied.

ISP programming also enabled me to use the internal oscillator.

the three buttons set time.

It may not look amazing the first time around, but that atrocity around the controller is the product of a lack of sleep and five coffees. Just don't hook up the controller when you're impatient and not capable of planning properly and/or out of it and you should be quite fine.
>>
>>1013408
On the first time I'll probably do a 4x6 keypad, so it shouldn't be too bad while giving me some experience.

Couple of questions:
1) Why Teensy? Is there a reason why I should consider it instead of Arduino Pro Micro?
2) That backplate on the second pic, did you make it yourself? I'm searching for a cheap way to make a backplate and quite stumped at the moment.

1. The teensy just seems to be the go-to for this kind of stuff. I know absolutely jack shit about microcontrollers and coding (will change once I enroll in EE this August), and it was readily available and quite cheap.

2. See my post here >>>/g/55241231
There's not really much you can do when it comes to making a plate. You can design it with this tool here (http://builder.swillkb.com/), but I couldn't imagine how you'd go about cutting the switch holes out without it being a massive pain, the easiest option would be getting it lasercut.

Ok, I can think of one thing: Draw on a piece of wood (you could probably also try this with acrylic, dunno how well it'd work though) where the square holes for the switches would be. Then cut holes in the corner with a drill, and then use a chisel to slam through the wood, between the holes. Do this on all four sides and you should have a hole. Obviously you'd need a fairly thin piece of wood, and it'd probably not work so well depending on the type of wood, but that's the best I can think of if you want to do it as cheap and DIY as possible.

On that note, I'll probably try that method myself sometime, I've been wanting to make some numpads myself and I wanted to try out wood or acrylic as backplate material. Keep an eye on the /mkg/ sometime from August onwards.

My big (I have 7) atx bench power supply with single output 3.3v 5v 12v -12v and -5v rails with up to 32a current handling.

The two plugs above them are a separate, buck converter controlled variable voltage supply (limited to 3a because of converter) and outputs 1-22v. Its the one I use for most applications and quick testing. The plugs are made to fit banana jacks and multimeter leads, also can be unscrewed for ring terminals. I'll post a couple build pics this took over 20 hours modifying an acrylic pc case, creating an efficient aairflow, and then over 200 soldered and wrapped connections, and a ton of lighting.

If a digital sensor datasheet says the sensor is accurate to 0.5c is this mean arduino won't make the accuracy suffer? Yes but its not variable without a buck converter and the current limit is extremely small.

Most ATX power supplies have negative (-12) and a negative (-5v) rail. This can be combined with positive rails for higher lower

-12v plus 12v makes a 24v rail but limits the current to the tiny ass negative vintage.

You can use two power supplies and ground the second one to the first ones +12, your second one will magically start producing +24 compared with earth ground.
