I have a roof deck like pic related and I want to hang up some sort of fabric/screening so I can nude tan without worrying about having the cops called by my neighbors. I tried hanging up canvas last year but it blocked wind too much and got ripped off on high-wind days. Does anyone know a good fabric to block view from ~30 ft away and allow enough wind passage to stay up all the time?

rattan/reed/bamboo screen/fence.
element proof, reasonable compromise between sight block / air passage, looks OK, reed stuff is cheep, etc.
>>
>>973552
Tin foil. just tin foil the whole fucking fence. you cannot deny this is the best idea ever. you get maximum rays from all angles, while heaving maximum privacy.
>>
try cutting evenly spaced downward v shape slits in the fabric, don't tie the fabric taught, leave it to flex.

Hi /diy/

Had a party a few weeks ago where some fucker kicked a hole in my door. Ive seen a lot of guides online about repairing holes, but all of them are for a flat surface, not a textured 6 panel door.

Can you recommend me a way to fix it or am I better off just buying a new door?

there are plenty of ways to fix it. However, they will all take more time AND cost more than spending $30 on a door of the same size and moving all the hardware. you'll need a drill, drill bits and screwdriver/bits. Possibly a chisel if you didn't get the door that is mortised out and it matters to you.

but if it REALLY matters to you, the only fix I've seen that doesn't sound just awful, is get a can of expanding foam insulation, cut out the hole to clean edges, spray the foam inside, and...

What is the best tooth size for hardwood?

Some say the large or x large teeth work fine in hardwood, while others say you need smaller and finer teeth. I want this saw so I can fell small trees composed of some of the more exotic hardwoods that can be found in my area.

the amount of teeth has nothing at all to do with the hardness of the wood. similarly, the term hardwood has nothing to do with the hardness of the wood.

hardwood is a colloquial term for angiosperms.

the amount of teeth determines the speed and inversely the roughness of the cut.
>>
>>973190
You want a saw that had spearfast or lightening teeth for felling, or any cross cut with a low tpi or tooth per inch if you can't find that.

Hey everyone, posting this here because no one in /o/ actually knows shit about cars or anything in general.

So i just picked up this 97 4 door Tahoe and the previous owner didnt have the original FOB for the doors, he also said it has a Keyless start installed but also does not have the FOB for it.
So im wondering if anyone knows if its possible if i could get a new fob which will work for both, or if its even possible to get a new fob and program it for both in general.
I do know its possible to get a fob for just the door locks etc, but i dont know if i can...

How many buttons do you need?
If it's like 4-5 just get an universal remote with the correct ranges.
At this point you look up any kind of code you find on the old systems to identify them and either snoop the right frequency or see if it's on a sticker inside

I've got a project in search of a computer, unsure what would be the most suitable.

I want to be able to have my voice recognized, manipulate some digital or analog i/o pins and have a speech synth reply.

Not sure where to start. Could somebody point me in the right direction?

Can i snip the wires leading to a traditional speaker and attach them to a piezo speaker, or do I need to convert the signal somehow?

Sorry if this is babby-tier stuff, but I am a physist by trade, and rarely do practical DIY work.
---

I plan to dismantle a bluetooth earphone, replace the speaker with a piezo, and then stick the whole thing in a pen. The sound it makes will be inaudible, unless you touch it to your teeth and cause the sound to be transmitted to your cochlear through your skull bones.

You could just be chewing on your pen and nobody would...

From experience helping a friend build a ski boat I can recommend Glen-L. They have frame kits available for most of their designs and that's a good place to start if you want to build a fair (true to shape) hull. Clark Craft is another old school kit manufacturer. My best advice is to make sure your work is perfect. Any little imperfection in the outer surface of your hull will cause a surprising amount of drag. Fill and sand, trim and sand, check and check again or you'll end up with a slow tub of a boat....

Personally, my plan (before I found one free on craigslist) was to build a sail catamaran out of two skin on frame canoes/kayaks with leeboards.

Hey /diy/,

I have a gate problem to solve. Our gate hasn't been opened in ~7 years now. As we live on a hill, the house and everything is constantly moving, therefore the gate doesn't wanna open now. I can hear the engines moving, but I believe the programming is fucked up. Do you think I could solve this problem on my own? Where should I even begin? I cannot even find the control panel. Pic related. Thanks!

Good evening /diy/, /k/ommando here, any one here ever mount military patches/crests/badges in a frame before? I just bought three frames that have the glass about 1/2 inch from the backing. The backing is that hard stiff cardboard toy find on any store bought picture frame. I will probably hit up a craft store for some other color matting material to replace the cream colored mat in it as it's for a picture and has a large square cut in the middle, and some kind of adhesive. What I need is a recommendation on material and the glue/adhesive. I'm worried anything I use...

>crests/badges
The have a pin backing so just get something like cork and put it in the back of the frame. Cover it with a nice fabric or paper or something and push them right through.

>patches
Pins. Like for sewing. Paint the heads a matching color and push them threw the patch and into the cork.
>>
>>972243
op here, honestly I wasn't even thinking of that, I was going to snap the posts off the back of the crests and glue them straight onto the mat, but now I guess I may have to look into that idea of cork. as far as the pins go, I guess if I use enough the patch shouldn't start to sag?
>>
>>972247
I have a 1st Cav patch held up by 3 pins. Two at the top corners, one at the bottom. Its the largest patch in the US Army and its held up for several years without a problem. Patches tend to be pretty thick though, unless you get some knock off crap. They are stiff and hard to bend. If you have a floppy patch then its not a 'real' patch and will probably need more pins.

Hi I have a somewhat strange question, with the emergence of EV vehicles I was thinking about a remote wand that could come out of a panel on an EV and reach 10 meters high and be magnetically braked to be inductively charged from the powerline to the vehicles battery system, I know this would be unacceptable in a safety conscious OECD country but thinking more in terms of a developing country where red tape wouldn't matter so much, clearly leaching off one phase of a powerline would not work and there would need to be a return path such as mega grounding or converting the HV to DC somehow and connecting the return path to the negative terminal of the Vehicles heavy duty battery - Would this work?

I've been working on one for a year, close to finishing it. Didn't have much time to work on it due to uni and shipping times from China are shit too at 3 weeks.
Mine's controlled by an Arduino Uno using DRV8825 motor drivers and a driver shield, small NEMA23 steppers driving 12mm trapezoid rods powered by a 240W 24V PSU. It has a 550W router mounted and the frame is made of 3030 alu profiles, a 30mm version of the 8020 profiles.

Youre also gonna want resistors on some outputs for obvious reasons.
