So, it's about time for me to update my PC hardware again, and I thought it might be cool to try building my own custom case. I wanted to do something like pic related. Nice flat form factor with plenty of room for expansion. It can be hung on the wall so it's not in the way. and plenty of airflow to keep it cool.

The overall design seems simple enough. It looks like it's basically just a wooden back board with some holes, and a couple risers holding up some plexiglass/acrilic. The thing I'm unsure about is how exactly to mount the hardware in the...

Anyone here know anything about rock tumbling? I'm kinda interested in it, but I'm not sure what I'm in for or if it's worth the cost investment.

My girlfriend does it.

Do you like rock hunting?
Do you plan on buying bulk rocks?
What will you do with the shiny rocks when done?
Do you like hobbies that take about 20 minutes of work a week?
Do you have somewhere to put the rock tumbler so you don't have to hear it run 24/7?

For anyone else wondering, 80/20 is the brand, and is very expensive. Openbuilds.org sells it for much cheaper, and in my experience is a very good quality. The company I work for buys 80/20, and it looks good too. The major difference is that 80/20 has a smoother, more refined finish.

Any idea for something to wear on the right arm wrist?
Got ye olde watch on the left wrist but what could one put on the right?

Because it's useless, the convenience of having it on your wrist at all times is negated by the fact that the tools are shit compared to a regular tool.

If yo absolutely need to have something on your wrist (and I don't see why you would) just get a paracord bracelet or something.

Daily Mushroom Grow Thread

So hey /b/, I started getting into the mushroom growing. Instead of buying spores online and ruining them, I settle a couple of try-error shots with local champignon as a source.

So I tried cloning methods. 3 Different approaches. Three different results and will post photos of them.

The three containers were cleaned, gloves and tools with 4% sodium hypochlorite solution. I moisted the cardbox, the brown rice and the sliced mushrooms in three separated containers with 5% chlorine dioxide solution.

1. Moisted Cardbox...

Hi diy, I have pic related. Its an ASUS X202E. A couple months ago, I killed the motherboard which had a Pentium 2117U, luckily I found what looked like the only i5 3317U motherboard in existence that fit this laptop. So now however I am really looking to upgrade but this laptop, everything (including RAM) is soldered and I already upgraded to a SSD. I was wondering if it would be possible to adapt another laptop's motherboard to my chassis. I was looking at the Zenbooks who seem to have a similar I/O and chassis and could you guys be of any help.

how did you break it? you're better off buying a new laptop but you can buy used motherboards from ebay and amazon and the likes for sub 80$. you need the model number on the bottom of the laptop to google it.
>>
>>987151
I accidentally pulled the charger too hard when I tripped on it and with it came the charger port out. Currently it working fine, its using the i5 3317U motherboard but I really to want to upgrade without spending $600+ on a laptop.

Our house insurance dinged us for not having an exterior stairs on a porch door that is locked and barricaded. Apparently this isn't enough for them, so they're cancelling the policy on 17 March.

The foundation is cement skimcoat over cinder blocks. Building the actual stairs is easy, but what's the best way to attach them to the foundation wall? Google searches are bringing up wildly contradicting information.

Mine just lay on the brick. I used 5 nails per riser, there's 3. You can't pull it up.

You could make a set of stairs that a lot of trailers have.

Usually Fiberglass steps. And are typically not required to be anchored. They sit under their own weight.

Decided to make a private garden in my back yard. I'm gonna a grow some veggies and other stuff. Started off with these 2x3 96" studs. Buried them about a foot And half deep and added some gravel and dirt for support. I don't know anything about making fences but I had a tight budget and decided to make a cheap fence since its only for the summer. The bags in pic related are trash and garbage that u had in the backyard, mostly dead weeds and old dead corn plants from last year. What would be a good material to wrap around the perimeter of my fence once I lay down...

There are many great books on electronics for beginners.

I would start with some simple transistor or mosfet circuits, like a riaa amplifier.

You could then look at some switched power converters like buck or boost (remember to load the boost)

There are plenty of options, but first and most important of all, you will encounter a lot of math! And I mean a lot..

Then you will encounter lots of component failure, due to lacking knowledge, this will cost hours and $$..

You would also have...

So I'm contemplating purchasing a small pre built cabin or something similar for full time living.

I'm single at the moment and figured this would be a great way t put away some savings.

I will purchase some land with existing electrical water sewage and place something on there to live in.

Has anyone done something similar on here and if so any ideas or concerns??

Once I can afford it I will Get a bigger metal building for shop while I live in cabin.

I've been living in pic related for about 6 months now. My dad and I built it from scratch. I love it.
My biggest tip is to insulate the fuck out of it. I also love in Texas and during the summer it never gets above 80 inside despite near 100 outside. The Ac doesn't have to work as hard. In the winter I hear it with a small 1500 watt desk heater. It gets really comfy.

Good luck.

OK guys. My gazeebo finally collapsed. No I did not build it. I know it wasn't the best design for the area, but it stood for nearly 20 years if not longer.
Anyway it's time to rebuild and I'd like to make something more permanent. Probably out of steel because we have a fire pit under it. The previous wood was extremely week from being dried out from heat.
Also get around 6ft of snow in the area.
Any suggestions that won't break the bank?
My thoughts were gabion pillars and a steel frame roof. But I have no idea how strong the roof needs to...

I's just use some Adjustable Split Jack Posts and put the roof back up. If you need it higher than what those can do, just make some short block pillars for them to rest on.

It was so dried out right above the fire that it split extremely easy.

This might be a dumb question, but is there a way to hack myself a poor man's depletion mode mosfet? depletion modes are way too expensive, but I need an energy efficient way to enable a disableable circuit even if I don't (temporarily) have access to ground directly (in that case I could simply use a p-channel).
